	Der Kurs "Crypto-Art" vermittelt Grundlagen der klassischen und modernen Kryptografie, und erforscht, wie sich Medienkunst mit dem Thema der Verschlüsselung auseinandersetzen kann. Im Mittelpunkt des Kurses stehen visuelle und perzeptive Kryptografie, also die Anwendung von Verschlüsselungs-Verfahren auf medialer Ebene und auf Wahrnehmungsebene. == Description ==

Crypto-Art teaches the basics of classic and modern cryptography, and explores how media art can tackle the topics of classic and modern cryptography.
This course revolves around visual and perceptive cryptography, i.e. ways of applying encryption at the level of media and the perceptual level.
Topics range from the cardan-grid invented by mathematician Gerolamo Cardano (1550) to modern methods of visual cryptography. Another focus is perceptive cryptography, i.e. methods where the human brain decrypts a message, as in the case of autostereograms.
A third focus is on internet cryptography and crypto-currencies such as bitcoin.
Tools and interfaces will be introduced, yielding both technical and ethical questions.

Joining the course requires programming skills in processing and/or python, which have to be testified by passing an introductory test.
