Hello everyone.I'm Yu Xiaorui

This is the page for my project -- '''MY FLOWER'''

This project is about to set up a system between human and plant in in-door areas.The gaol is to make plants interact with its owner and do aromatherapy for them.With the help of synthetic biology, it's quite possible to make one plants produce various kinds of fragrances. And release the one its host need under his/her current mood. To control the plant to make scent is not a big problem now. My main difficult is the way to connect plant and human. And it's also what I'am thinking so hard right now.

====About Pheromone====

I try to find something about Pheromones on the internet. 
There are kinds of Pheromones given off by animals. 
But, as far as I know, there might not be that many from human. 
The only one I am sure is sexual pheromone. 
If any one of you know more about it,Please tell me!

You'r quite right,and your comment is just about my dilemma. 
On one hand, I like the plant to adjust its scent for people without some intentional actions of the owner. So I design a sensor pill in the body. 
But, on the other hand, I don't think to implant sensor is a good idea.So I think about a water pot later. But to use it, it's against my first requirement.

You suggestion about Pheromone is really good.If it works, that will be an ideal solution to my project. 
but I still don't know how much can it do. Or if the plants can take reaction to human Pheromone.(Maybe it's possible with Synthetic biology) 
I really think my Short knowledge of life science is a problem :(

I actually think about to use manual remote control to stop the plant or do something opposite when the automatic response is not what you want.Maybe I didn't make myself clear during the presentation.

I really liked the idea of your plant producing scents when people have certain problems. And I also liked the fact that the plant would produce the scent
even in situations when we are not doing anything in particular with the plant itself.

It would be nice the plant would work without to much workload of it's owner.

I don't think you will have the nerves to programming your plant.

The problem to let anybody know how you feel today, is not that big thing.
There are so many meaning to essentials oils that it's hard to guess whats wrong with the plants owner.

For example lavender is used for aromatic therapie when:

- you are stressed and sleepless
- you are sick and injured, because its antiseptic
- you are depressed

But without any problem it can also be:

- good for your heart and skin
- relaxing, refreshing and stimulating

So I wouldn't care to much about that. Because there are a lot of people working with essential oils in their living area today *my mom for example* and I never heard 'ah Mrs. Walk thats lemongrass...are you feeling sick?'.
Most people would think, 'ah that smells nice, really refreshing'.

But Sebastian is right, it should be possible to tell the plant to stop or to do the opposite of what it is doing already.

As you might know they are hormones normally found in body fluids like sweat or saliva to give others information about our body or attendance for sexual reproduction. Also plants use them to deliver special messages from one to another. May be you can give your plant when you don't like it to produce any scent or to produce the opposite scent a special mix of pheromones to let them know what you want.

I thought about all the comments everybody made that day.
And I come up with some new ideas.

Firstly, I try to discard the mechanical part of the project,try to combine the analyze function to the plant. 
But, unfortunately, I didn't find any thing can prove that plants can detecting data of human. 
And to tell one's emotion by analyzing is quite demanding and complex. 
I think plants can only collect some external data such as temperature and breath, which is not sufficient. 
So, I think it may still need some technical support out side form the plant.

Then, given the suggestion form Sebastian,This process should not be automatically. The owner should decide when to take the test. 
Based on this, What come up into my mind is that I can use a water pot instead. Every time people feel like to have a aromatherapy, they just water the plant. 
And I think it can use the technology from the yogurt pot. 
Every time you grab the handle it will take sample and start to analyze.

Other than that, I read the article about artificial life on wiki. 
I don't know if we can make a super smart plant which knows the owner's mood and do some thing for him.

b. The sensor will be installed into human body. It will analyze host's data

I thought about all the comments everybody made that day.
And I come up with some new ideas.

Firstly, I try to discard the mechanical part of the project,try to combine the analyze function to the plant. 
But, unfortunately, I didn't find any thing can prove that plants can detecting data of human. 
And to tell one's emotion by analyzing is quite demanding and complex. 
I think plants can only collect some external data such as temperature and breath, which is not sufficient. 
So, I think it may still need some technical support out side form the plant.

Then, given the suggestion form Sebastian,This process should not be automatically. The owner should decide when to take the test. 
Based on this, What come up into my mind is that I can use a water pot instead. Every time people feel like to have a aromatherapy, they just water the plant. 
And I think it can use the technology from the yogurt pot. 
Every time you grab the handle it will take sample and start to analyze.

Other than that, I read the article about artificial life on wiki. 
I don't know if we can make a super smart plant which knows the owner's mood and do some thing for him.

This project is about to set up a system between human and plant in in-door areas.The gaol is to make plants interact with its owner and do aromatherapy for them.With the help of synthetic biology, it's quite possible to make one plants produce various kinds of fragrances. And release the one its host need under his/her current mood. To control the plant to make scent is not a big problem now. My main difficult is the way to connect plant and human. And it's also what I'am thinking so hard right now.

I try to find something about Pheromones on the internet. 
There are kinds of Pheromones given off by animals. 
But, as far as I know, there might not be that many from human. 
The only one I am sure is sexual pheromone. 
If any one of you know more about it,Please tell me!

You'r quite right,and your comment is just about my dilemma. 
On one hand, I like the plant to adjust its scent for people without some intentional actions of the owner. So I design a sensor pill in the body. 
But, on the other hand, I don't think to implant sensor is a good idea.So I think about a water pot later. But to use it, it's against my first requirement.

You suggestion about Pheromone is really good.If it works, that will be an ideal solution to my project. 
but I still don't know how much can it do. Or if the plants can take reaction to human Pheromone.(Maybe it's possible with Synthetic biology) 
I really think my Short knowledge of life science is a problem :(

I actually think about to use manual remote control to stop the plant or do something opposite when the automatic response is not what you want.Maybe I didn't make myself clear during the presentation.

I really liked the idea of your plant producing scents when people have certain problems. And I also liked the fact that the plant would produce the scent
even in situations when we are not doing anything in particular with the plant itself.

It would be nice the plant would work without to much workload of it's owner.

The problem to let anybody know how you feel today, is not that big thing.

- you are sick and injured, because its antiseptic
- you are depressed

But without any problem it can also be:

- good for your heart and skin
- relaxing, refreshing and stimulating

So I wouldn't care to much about that. Because there are a lot of people working with essential oils in their living area today *my mom for example* and I never heard 'ah Mrs. Walk thats lemongrass...are you feeling sick?'.
Most people would think, 'ah that smells nice, really refreshing'.

But Sebastian is right, it should be possible to tell the plant to stop or to do the opposite of what it is doing already.

As you might know they are hormones normally found in body fluids like sweat or saliva to give others information about our body or attendance for sexual reproduction. Also plants use them to deliver special messages from one to another. I thought about all the comments everybody made that day.
And I come up with some new ideas.

Firstly, I try to discard the mechanical part of the project,try to combine the analyze function to the plant. 
But, unfortunately, I didn't find any thing can prove that plants can detecting data of human. 
And to tell one's emotion by analyzing is quite demanding and complex. 
I think plants can only collect some external data such as temperature and breath, which is not sufficient. 
So, I think it may still need some technical support out side form the plant.

Then, given the suggestion form Sebastian,This process should not be automatically. The owner should decide when to take the test. 
Based on this, What come up into my mind is that I can use a water pot instead. Every time people feel like to have a aromatherapy, they just water the plant. 
And I think it can use the technology from the yogurt pot. 
Every time you grab the handle it will take sample and start to analyze.

Other than that, I read the article about artificial life on wiki. 
I don't know if we can make a super smart plant which knows the owner's mood and do some thing for him.

Hello, 
here is the picture about my Logo design.

There are two sets of logos, One for our team, one for the supermarket each. 
I choose the double-chain structure of DNA and the shape of displaying bases in Biology as factors in my design. Also means the combination or collaboration of Weimar and Heidelburg.

It's HeidelBERG, not BURG. Berg = Mountain, Burg = Castle. There is a castle in Heidelberg, but the city is named after a hill.--[[User:Max|max]] 12:41, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Secondly, it's my concept of our webshop.

* There is a bar on the top of page to show links to other subpages. Such as My account, Contact us, DNA Test, etc.
* The pink tags are the catalogs of different groups of product. The chosen group will show the pictures on the right. I like to make all the products in a really scene.
* The green triangles is to flip the page if one picture is not enough.
* To click on one product will lead to the page for it as the blue arrow show. This page is also designed the same way of the main page. So the interface will stay the same and less confusing. The tags are about different information of this product,such as: Basic info, Picture/video, 3D model, technical details, designer's story and comments...

In my opinion, our webshop should stay simple and clean. In that we can highlight our product mostly. 
And the supermarket is just a concept or a container for our idea, so we don't have to compare our supermarket with the real ones. Especially the marketing Stratagem part. After all we sell nothing. That means we can be more free when we think. 

And I also did a little swf file to show my idea of the navigating system of the supermarket, if we need one.

A mechanism well known by all internetshop users...but in this case taken to extremes...

As known from computers as a personal key to use the fingerprint there should be a small interface next to your computer which analyses your body needs and genetical code.
According to this you get special commercials in the supermarket
e.g. for vitamines, diet-helpers or anti-transpirants

Online: next to the computer there is this interface.

Offline (real life supermarket): when entereing the shop you get a shopping basket, at the handle bar there is a sensor which analyses these things. With a W-Lan system it sends it to the server which coordinates the data of all the shoppers. On a small display in the shopping basket you get special informations.
Aditionally if you pass by the light in the supermarket spots those products that are 'good' for you.

As a special service the system makes shopping to a social event. It locates persons that would fit very good with your genetic material or your current feeling. So you get the advice (online as a pop-up window, offline as a note ob your screen) 'have a look in corridor 4, section B you may find...(and you have the possibility to contact this person, so also in the online version you see who else is shopping at the same time).

When entering the supermarket you also may give yourself a profile, which works as a filter.
(e.g. show me only woman between 30-40, not having had sex in the last 48 hours, smoking but in general healthy.
Or an extra as a visualization of how a child with this person would look like...

Even if I dont want … I always come back to the idea of a „second life“-market – it really has some good options – seeing the other, having the possibility to interact, really going through the world and so on. and maybe its easier to use existing systems than to create something completely new... but i am not really happy with this thought)

not good in virtual makrekts: flying through the things. (want it more touchy) if there is someting in the way there is something in the way.... more the feeling of being able to take something out and have it in the hand...
often only 2D ictures at the wall..thats not nice. shoul be more a rack...

although i preferred the mall - it seems not to be a good solution. you run too long until you find something. So lets make ONE NICE SUPERMARKET with nice spotlights on (our personal project-) products and than racks with other products.

In the supermarkt, you can find separatly organs. When your own one is not that good to use, you can just buy one and simply attach it to your body. It will temporarily work for you. Such as digest systems, ears, even heart.
Maybe you can even put a third eye in your back!

of modified bacteria to give your sweat an enjoyable note. Which qualities would the
product design need to provide in order to host the bacteria. Would it need a special

This project is about to set up a system between human and plant in in-door areas.The gaol is to make plants interact with its owner and do aromatherapy for them.With the help of synthetic biology, it's quite possible to make one plants produce various kinds of fragrances. And release the one its host need under his/her current mood. To control the plant to make scent is not a big problem now. My main difficult is the way to connect plant and human. I try to find something about Pheromones on the internet. 
There are kinds of Pheromones given off by animals. 
But, as far as I know, there might not be that many from human. 
The only one I am sure is sexual pheromone.

You'r quite right,and your comment is just about my dilemma. 
On one hand, I like the plant to adjust its scent for people without some intentional actions of the owner. So I design a sensor pill in the body. 
But, on the other hand, I don't think to implant sensor is a good idea.So I think about a water pot later. But to use it, it's against my first requirement.

You suggestion about Pheromone is really good.If it works, that will be an ideal solution to my project. 
but I still don't know how much can it do. Or if the plants can take reaction to human Pheromone.(Maybe it's possible with Synthetic biology) 
I really think my Short knowledge of life science is a problem :(

I actually think about to use manual remote control to stop the plant or do something opposite when the automatic response is not what you want.Maybe I didn't make myself clear during the presentation.

Hey Yu,

I really liked the idea of your plant producing scents when people have certain problems. And I also liked the fact that the plant would produce the scent
even in situations when we are not doing anything in particular with the plant itself.

It would be nice the plant would work without to much workload of it's owner.
Because if your are stressed or ill or tired,
I don't think you will have the nerves to programming your plant.
It takes time!!!

The problem to let anybody know how you feel today, is not that big thing.
There are so many meaning to essentials oils that it's hard to guess whats wrong with the plants owner.

For example lavender is used for aromatic therapie when:

- you are stressed and sleepless
- you are sick and injured, because its antiseptic
- you are depressed

But without any problem it can also be:

- good for your heart and skin
- relaxing, refreshing and stimulating

So I wouldn't care to much about that. Because there are a lot of people working with essential oils in their living area today *my mom for example* and I never heard 'ah Mrs. Walk thats lemongrass...are you feeling sick?'.
Most people would think, 'ah that smells nice, really refreshing'.

But Sebastian is right, it should be possible to tell the plant to stop or to do the opposite of what it is doing already.

As you might know they are hormones normally found in body fluids like sweat or saliva to give others information about our body or attendance for sexual reproduction. Also plants use them to deliver special messages from one to another. May be you can give your plant when you don't like it to produce any scent or to produce the opposite scent a special mix of pheromones to let them know what you want.

====Further idea====
I thought about all the comments everybody made that day.
And I come up with some new ideas.

Firstly, I try to discard the mechanical part of the project,try to combine the analyze function to the plant. 
But, unfortunately, I didn't find any thing can prove that plants can detecting data of human. 
And to tell one's emotion by analyzing is quite demanding and complex. 
I think plants can only collect some external data such as temperature and breath, which is not sufficient. 
So, I think it may still need some technical support out side form the plant.

Then, given the suggestion form Sebastian,This process should not be automatically. The owner should decide when to take the test. 
Based on this, What come up into my mind is that I can use a water pot instead. Every time people feel like to have a aromatherapy, they just water the plant. 
And I think it can use the technology from the yogurt pot. 
Every time you grab the handle it will take sample and start to analyze.

Other than that, I read the article about artificial life on wiki. 
I don't know if we can make a super smart plant which knows the owner's mood and do some thing for him.

This project is about to set up a system between human and plant in in-door areas.The gaol is to make plants interact with its owner and do aromatherapy for them.With the help of synthetic biology, it's quite possible to make one plants produce various kinds of fragrances. And release the one its host need under his/her current mood. To control the plant to make scent is not a big problem now. My main difficult is the way to connect plant and human. And it's also what I'am thinking so hard right now.

I try to find something about Pheromones on the internet. 
There are kinds of Pheromones given off by animals. 
But, as far as I know, there might not be that many from human. 
The only one I am sure is sexual pheromone. 
If any one of you know more about it,Please tell me!

You'r quite right,and your comment is just about my dilemma. 
On one hand, I like the plant to adjust its scent for people without some intentional actions of the owner. So I design a sensor pill in the body. 
But, on the other hand, I don't think to implant sensor is a good idea.So I think about a water pot later. But to use it, it's against my first requirement.

You suggestion about Pheromone is really good.If it works, that will be an ideal solution to my project. 
but I still don't know how much can it do. Or if the plants can take reaction to human Pheromone.(Maybe it's possible with Synthetic biology) 
I really think my Short knowledge of life science is a problem :(

I actually think about to use manual remote control to stop the plant or do something opposite when the automatic response is not what you want.Maybe I didn't make myself clear during the presentation.

I really liked the idea of your plant producing scents when people have certain problems. And I also liked the fact that the plant would produce the scent
even in situations when we are not doing anything in particular with the plant itself.

It would be nice the plant would work without to much workload of it's owner.
Because if your are stressed or ill or tired,
I don't think you will have the nerves to programming your plant.
It takes time!!!

The problem to let anybody know how you feel today, is not that big thing.
There are so many meaning to essentials oils that it's hard to guess whats wrong with the plants owner.

For example lavender is used for aromatic therapie when:

- you are stressed and sleepless
- you are sick and injured, because its antiseptic
- you are depressed

But without any problem it can also be:

- good for your heart and skin
- relaxing, refreshing and stimulating

So I wouldn't care to much about that. Because there are a lot of people working with essential oils in their living area today *my mom for example* and I never heard 'ah Mrs. Walk thats lemongrass...are you feeling sick?'.
Most people would think, 'ah that smells nice, really refreshing'.

But Sebastian is right, it should be possible to tell the plant to stop or to do the opposite of what it is doing already.

As you might know they are hormones normally found in body fluids like sweat or saliva to give others information about our body or attendance for sexual reproduction. Also plants use them to deliver special messages from one to another. I thought about all the comments everybody made that day.
And I come up with some new ideas.

Firstly, I try to discard the mechanical part of the project,try to combine the analyze function to the plant. 
But, unfortunately, I didn't find any thing can prove that plants can detecting data of human. 
And to tell one's emotion by analyzing is quite demanding and complex. 
I think plants can only collect some external data such as temperature and breath, which is not sufficient. 
So, I think it may still need some technical support out side form the plant.

Then, given the suggestion form Sebastian,This process should not be automatically. The owner should decide when to take the test. 
Based on this, What come up into my mind is that I can use a water pot instead. Every time people feel like to have a aromatherapy, they just water the plant. 
And I think it can use the technology from the yogurt pot. 
Every time you grab the handle it will take sample and start to analyze.

Other than that, I read the article about artificial life on wiki. 
I don't know if we can make a super smart plant which knows the owner's mood and do some thing for him.

Die grundlegende Manipulation oder sogar Neuerschaffung von Leben wirft zahlreiche gesellschaftliche, philosophische und künstlerische Fragen auf.

Wie werden wir in Zukunft mit dieser "nassen Technologie" zusammenleben?
Wie wird unser Verhältnis zu semi-lebendigen Produkten sein?
Welche ästhetischen und sinnlichen Möglichkeiten ergeben sich daraus?
Welche Rollen können Kunst und Design bei der Gestaltung unserer
technologischen und gesellschaftlichen Zukunft einnehmen?

Im Rahmen des Projektes ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit der Universität Heidelberg geplant, mit dem Ziel gemeinsam Ideen und Konzepte für den kommenden iGEM Wettbewerb zu entwickeln.
Die iGEM Competition (international Genetically Engineered Machine Competition) ist der internationale Studentenwettbewerb der Synthetischen Biologie an dem sich die Universität Heidelberg seit einigen Jahren sehr erfolgreich beteiligt.

This project is about to set up a system between human and plant in in-door areas.The gaol is to make plants interact with its owner and do aromatherapy for them.With the help of synthetic biology, it's quite possible to make one plants produce various kinds of fragrances. And release the one its host need under his/her current mood. To control the plant to make scent is not a big problem now. My main difficult is the way to connect plant and human. And it's also what I'am thinking so hard right now.
