Furthermore several other disposal sites in Germany have been shut down due environmental related issues. No longer can one find unhandled rubbish on the landfills.<br /> <br /> Circa 6ha of 18ha of the disposal site are renatured by now. Animals and vegetation are creating a natural environment out of a former „dead“ place. In the future there will be a natural park in conjunction with a new recycling center. As this indicates, the area Erfurt-Schwerborn is transforming dramatically. <br /> <br /> I aim to both conceptualize and visualize the idea of circulation; the before and after - the idea of infinity. In order to do so I will use the stylistic devices of Caspar David Friedrich and the still changing area of Erfurt-Schwerborn. Furthermore several other disposal sites in Germany have been shut down due environmental related issues. Animals and vegetation are creating a natural environment out of a former „dead“ place. In the future there will be a natural park in conjunction with a new recycling center. Gegenüber Texten bewahren sie sich eine größere interpretatorische Offenheit und unterlaufen die Beschränkungen bzw. Präfigurationen sprachlich-wissenschaftlicher Einordnungen. Aby Warburg hat ab 1924 mit dem Bilderatlas „Mnemosyne“ einen herausragenden Versuch unternommen, Kulturgeschichte nicht einfach als Bildergeschichte zu beschreiben, sondern durch Arrangements von Bildern bestimmte Zusammenhänge „ersichtlich“ zu machen. Denn (Re-)Konstruktion von bildlichen Erinnerungen ist selbst ein bildnerischer Prozess: nicht nur die Auswahl, sondern auch die Anordnung von Bildern schafft Bedeutung. Künstler haben immer wieder auf unterschiedlichste Bildarchive zurückgegriffen und alternative Interpretationen der Geschichte geschaffen. In der Vergangenheit stand die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Systematik der Wissenschaften im Vordergrund. Heute bieten die Algorithmen digitaler Bildarchive wie die Google Bildersuche oder Apples iPhoto neuen Anlass für eine Beschäftigung mit automatisierten Identifikations- und Klassifikationsprozessen, z.B. Ausschnitte aus maßgeblichen Texten zur Mnemosyne/Mnemotechnik diskutieren; diese Diskussionen finden als sog. „Meditationen“ als performative, nicht-wissenschaftliche Dialoge statt. In the Fachmodule, students will research, create and exhibit their own picture atlas as a result of a comprehensive investigation into the origin and history of images and strategies and effects of real existing and virtual classification systems. We will review Aby Warburgs famous “Mnemosyne” atlas (124-1929) in length as well as related works by contemporary artists. (Μνημοσύνη), das Gedächtnis, personif. als Mutter der Musen (Damen Conversationslexikon, 19. Jh.)<br /> <br /> Ein wesentlicher Teil unseres kulturellen Gedächtnisses wird durch Bilder geprägt. Ob es sich dabei um die großen Themen kollektiven Gedenkens handelt, oder um individuelle, persönliche Erinnerungen, stets greifen wir auf einen großen Fundus überlieferter Bilder zurück. Gegenüber Texten bewahren sie sich eine größere interpretatorische Offenheit und unterlaufen die Beschränkungen bzw. Präfigurationen sprachlich-wissenschaftlicher Einordnungen. Aby Warburg hat ab 1924 mit dem Bilderatlas „Mnemosyne“ einen herausragenden Versuch unternommen, Kulturgeschichte nicht einfach als Bildergeschichte zu beschreiben, sondern durch Arrangements von Bildern bestimmte Zusammenhänge „ersichtlich“ zu machen. Denn (Re-)Konstruktion von bildlichen Erinnerungen ist selbst ein bildnerischer Prozess: nicht nur die Auswahl, sondern auch die Anordnung von Bildern schafft Bedeutung. Künstler haben immer wieder auf unterschiedlichste Bildarchive zurückgegriffen und alternative Interpretationen der Geschichte geschaffen. In der Vergangenheit stand die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Systematik der Wissenschaften im Vordergrund. Heute bieten die Algorithmen digitaler Bildarchive wie die Google Bildersuche oder Apples iPhoto neuen Anlass für eine Beschäftigung mit automatisierten Identifikations- und Klassifikationsprozessen, z.B. Gesichtserkennung und Geotagging.<br /> <br /> ====Kursinhalte &amp; -ziele====<br /> Im Kurs werden wir uns intensiv mit der Entstehung und Bedeutung von Aby Warburgs Bilderatlas „Mnemosyne“ auseinandersetzen.<br /> Weiterhin werden wir mit Strategien und der Ästhetik der Erinnerungs- und Gedächtniskultur im Werk verschiedener Künstlerinnen und Künstler beschäftigen (Kurzreferate!), z.B. bei Emily Jacir, Christian Boltanski, Annette Messager, Walid Raad / The Atlas Group, Anselm Kiefer, Ilya und Emilia Kabakov, Gerhard Richter, Sarkis. Begleitend und vertiefend werden wir kurze(!) Ausschnitte aus maßgeblichen Texten zur Mnemosyne/Mnemotechnik diskutieren; diese Diskussionen finden als sog. „Meditationen“ als performative, nicht-wissenschaftliche Dialoge statt. Eine Exkursion ins Bildarchiv des Bundesarchivs in Koblenz ist ebenfalls Bestanteil des Kursangebots.<br /> Im Zentrum steht die Befähigung zur kritischen künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit der Herkunft und dem „Nachleben“ von Bildern, der Erzeugung bzw. Veränderung von Authentizität und Aussagen durch die unterschiedliche Zusammenstellungen von Bildern und der Gestaltung verschiedener Repräsentationsformen.<br /> <br /> Kursziel ist die Zusammenstellung eines eigenen Bilderatlas! Erwartet wird die engagierte Recherche nach Bildern aller Art -- dazu zählen auch und gerade Motive aus privaten, alltäglichen oder scheinbar trivialen Sammlungen. Die Produktion von fiktionalen Dokumenten („Fakes“) kann ebenfalls Teil dieser Strategie sein. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Entwicklung einer individuellen Systematik, die sich nicht zwingend durch Wissenschaftlichkeit aber durch intellektuellen Scharfsinn auszeichnen soll (Humor inbegriffen). Die Wahl des Mediums ist frei, der Atlas kann sowohl als Tafelwerk/Buch wie auch als Wand- oder Vitrineninstallation realisiert werden, elektronische Formate sind ebenfalls möglich. Format und Umfang werden individuell abgesprochen, der Atlas sollte jedoch mehrere Zusammenstellungen enthalten.
