'''The "ELECTRONIC XYLOPHONE"'''

'''Intention'''

My aim for the final assingment was to build something which is easy to use and had the potential to entertain. So i decided to build something that I, or others, could play with and have fun. Hence the idea of the electronic xylophone was created.
Let me use this platform to help you create your own electronic xylophone and feel the excitment I felt.

'''Items used'''

- 2 xylophones

- some wire

- 2 batteries

- 2 switches

- 4 or more seesaws

- a carriage with wheels

- Patience

- and a lot of much time

'''Instructions'''

STEP 1

''You have to know your end goal, draw it, feel it.''

[[File:11053452_1035654453161373_8207076763105865328_o.jpg‎]]

STEP 2

''You need some weights or rubber bands at the ends of the seesaws, for better movement. The carriage has to be shaped in such a way, that it can travel underneath the seesaws to push them up.''

STEP 3

''Finding the most suitable manner of propulsion for your carriage''

[[File:886087_1035653219828163_8417132732470327660_o.jpg]]

''I chose two separate motors that had two separate switches, because the movement of the carriage was more stable than with a one motor construction.''

imagining and inventing new mechanisms for interpreting the environment

This is a rigorous introduction to Do-It-Yourself Electronics. The Conceptual Sensor proposes an art-making methodology where concept and aesthetics emerge through hands-on investigation of electricity and the materiality of technology. Here, we will focus on building devices and prototypes that consider alternative ways of sensing and responding to the environment. We aim to go beyond the capabilities of consumer electronics made to measure the world by imagining technology that connects us to the environment (and the environment to us) in adventurous ways.

This course takes a bottom-up approach to the electronic medium through techniques such as deconstruction; experimental circuit design; pattern recognition and reverse-engineering. By employing processes that make the hidden inner world of machines accessible, it also seeks to critique the economic systems embedded throughout electronic media and its impact on humans and nature.
~~

'''Introduction to "THE BOX"'''

During the last semester I spent a lot of my time in class taking apart speakers, radios, computers and other technical equipment. The world inside devices, that is usually hidden behind a cover of plastic, is most time more beautiful and fascinating than the exterior. This being the biggest influence in my work on "THE BOX". The basic function of a speaker is to have an affect on the environment arround it by its outputs the speaker is, for a lack of a better word, a "giver". Taking this into account, I had the idea to use a speaker as a medium to amplify the world around you, yet still influenced by the technology of a speaker.

'''Technical Details'''

"THE BOX" consists of the box of an old speaker, in the center you find a piezo element which I used as a contact microphone. Placed arround this is copper wire that is attached to the box. The piezo is connected to a circuit with an amplifier and further to the reciever of an old telephone. To have a sense of control or influence over the sound created, there is a loudspeaker attached to the bottom of the device whiche I use to send soundwaves into "THE BOX".

The Unstrument emphasizes the physical aspect of sound through exercises that look at how various forms of waves in space intersect with bodies and inhabit objects and environments. This course aims to draw out a variety of critical positions through the act of listening, making matter resonate and deconstructing the idea of noise. Here, sound is a medium meant to be explored as a raw material for art-making that includes installation, performance, do-it-yourself (DIY) electronics and happenings.
