Notes for Speakers
If you feel you have something interesting to share, please contact us. We are always looking for interesting things to share and talk about.

Typically, we have two presentations per meeting. There is a projector with VGA Connector. If you need Sound or a Computer, please contact Michael. If you bring your presentation on a USB-Stick, please use either Mac-Keynote or PDF, because we may or may not find a Windows-PC with Powerpoint.

The language of your talk (German/English) is up to you to decide. Usually, there are about 5 to 10% Students that understand English better than German.

The presentation should have a duration of about ~ 20 minutes. Please understand that we need to stop the talk after 30 minutes latest, because there should be time for feedback, questions and short discussions.
The objective of “Interactive Surfaces”project was to develop a sustainable interactive surface.
for that reason, was used as structural material a Colombian natural fiber (Fique). To get the interactive property, we began by exploring with different technology applications. Afterwards, using the basic principles of electronics, we built the circuits, so that they could be integrated within the fiber through construction layers and folding structure, at in the end we achieved the interactive surface by programming the circuits.

The sustainable interactive surface was taken into account, from extraction of the fiber to its degradation, that means, when the life cycle of the interactive surface is finished, then the electronic items could be separated from the fiber and both of them can be re-used into a new application.

The production of smart materials is not only the process of digitalization, but also on how it could be used for the non-standardised practices to transform the traditional materials. How the basic interactive applications allow us to rethink the traditional boundaries between architect and builder, designer and craftsman?..
To develop a “Sustainable Interactive Surface”was used as structural material a natural fiber (Fique).
To get the interactive property, we began by exploring with different technology applications, which could be integrated within the fiber through construction layers and folding structure, at the end we achieved the interactive surface by programming the circuits.
The sustainable interactive surface was taken into account, from extraction of the fiber to its degradation, that means, when the life cycle of the interactive surface is finished, then the electronic items could be separated from the fiber and both of them can be re-used into a new application.

The proposal was originated with the exploration of interface surface in architecture.
We developed a modular labyrinth as a proposal of the Via Crucis installation, which has special environment and is created by interactive surface of paper and electronic components. This way we can generate a harmonic, natural and traditional atmosphere situated in Franz Liszt period.
„Via Crucis“ of 1878/79 is a musical compositions inspired by the 14 Stations of the Cross from Franz Liszt.

"The performance of surfaces are evolving day per day. It has even, become a frequent topic of research in different areas such as architecture, media, fashion (textile) and more. This has resulted in the creation of smart surfaces, which can be applied in the innovation of several products."
The objective of “Interactive Surfaces”
project was to develop a sustainable interactive surface, for that reason, was used as structural material a Colombian natural fiber (Fique).
How the basic interactive applications allow us to rethink the traditional boundaries between architect and builder, designer and craftsman?[3].
THE IDEA
The objective of “Interactive Surfaces” project was to develop a sustainable interactive surface, for that reason, was used as struc- tural material a Colombian natural fiber (Fique). To get the inter- active property, we began by exploring with different technology applications.
The production of smart materials is not only the process of digita- lization, but also on how it could be used for the non-standardised practices to transform the traditional materials. How the basic in- teractive applications allow us to rethink the traditional boundaries between architect and builder, designer and craftsman?[3].

My Magic Ball 8
This app is inspired in a classical game Magic 8 Ball by Albert C. Carter, to create a program in iOS , which can be used for fortune-telling or seeking advice.

How can be use the app
Essentially the front view of the ball is the number 8, after the user formulate a yes or no question, and shake the iPhone , then the ball will come with the expected answer.

In this simulation each of the 20 faces has an affirmative, negative, or non-committal statement , which function with a random factor.

Need to make a decision? Don't drop the ball! Consult the Magic 8-Ball anytime you need fast, fun guidance. :)

Venue: Marienstraße 7b, Room 105<br />
First meeting: Tuesday, 17.4.

IMPORTANT: This is the first part of a two-term Fachmodul!
It is expected that participants attend both courses.

* Einführung in Objective-C 2.0
* Übersicht Cocoa Touch: iOS 5 Frameworks (UIKit, Foundation…)
* Einführung in die Entwicklungsumgebung Xcode 4
* Generelle Programmierkonzepte der objektorientierten Objective-C Sprache und des Cocoa-Touch Frameworks
* Künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Medium und Fragen der Interaktion

English Description
Just as the buzzwords "Ubiquitous Computing" and "Augmented Reality" are beginning to lose their thrilling denotation, the iPhone and especially the iPad is becoming an exciting platform to set standards - not only regarding the user interface, but also with its application based paradigm and a well-thought development environment. In 2010 there was just one tablet available: the iPad. And the career prospects for iOS developers are certainly very promising.

This module is paying tribute to this progress and is aiming to give an insight into programming concepts for iOS 5 incl. Objective-C 2.0, the related iOS frameworks and the Xcode IDE (which is - by the way - also valid in most parts for application development for the Mac OS X operating system).

At the end of this course, students should have developed a small (!) application (media art, experiment, game, utility...). Combinations with semester projects and teamwork between artists/designers and programmers are very welcome. All participants may access a University's iPhone Developer Account, that enables us to test applications on devices without further expenses.

The Module is open for Media-Systems, MediaArts & Design and the Design Faculty. Because of the advanced topics, it is required to have knowledge of at least one programming language (the concepts of variables, functions, arrays etc... should be known). To develop for iOS, an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.7 is required. Unfortunately we have no iOS devices to lend, so if you don't want to be restricted to the simulator, you should also have a iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad).
