== Class Description ==
The module gives an introduction into the production of artistic projects. The plenary sessions are offering a culture of discussion and an organizational framework. Students are expected to develop in a self motivated and self-organized manner their ideas and proposals and are expected to implement and realise them until the end of the semester. This semester we will have a special focus on machine learning, but other topics are not excluded.
The prior or simultaneous attendance of Fachmodules of GMU as well as a lecture on Media Art History on Monday, 5.30 pm is obligatory.
For interested students a separate module on the basics of machine learning and a retreat with students from other Art Schools will be organized.

== Kursbeschreibung ==

==='''The elements of design - The building blocks of design.'''===

Each one of them plays a distinct role in the composition.

LINE – A line in my understanding is a mark made between two distinct points by a pointed tool, a collection of several dots which denotes moving point.

SHAPE – A shape is a self-contained dominant element in the design.

DIRECTION – All the lines have a direction which may be horizontal, vertical or oblique/diagonal. Horizontal suggests calmness, stability and tranquillity. Vertical gives a feeling of balance, formality and alertness. Oblique suggests movement and action

SIZE – Size is simply the ratio of the area occupied by one shape to that of another.

TEXTURE – Texture is the surface quality of a shape – rough, smooth, soft hard glossy etc.

COLOUR – Colour is created by light. Colour has three main characteristics: hue or (red, green, blue, etc.), value (how light or dark it is), and intensity (how bright or dull it is).color is also distinguished by which primary colour is mixed with it, making the division between tints, tones and shades.

==='''The principles of design - The basis of concepts'''===

BALANCE – Symmetrical design generates balance through equally subjective elements aligned on either side of a centre line. On the other hand, asymmetrical design uses contradictory weights (like contrasting one large element with several smaller elements) to create a composition that is not even but still has equilibrium.

CONTRAST – Contrast is the juxtaposition of opposing elements. Contrast is what folks mean when they say a design “pops.” It comes away from the page and sticks in your memory. Contrast creates space and difference between elements in your design. Your background needs to be significantly different from the colour of your elements so they work symphonically together and are readable.

MOVEMENT - Movement is controlling the elements in a composition so that the eye is led to move from one to the next and the information is properly communicated to your audience. Movement creates the story or the narrative of your work.

PATTERN - Pattern is the even repetition of any of the elements of art or any combination thereof. Anything can be turned into a pattern through repetition. Some classic patterns are spirals, grids, weaves.

RHYTHM - Rhythm is created by movement inferred through the repetition of elements of art in a non-uniform but organized way. It is related to the rhythm in music. Unlike pattern, which demands consistency, rhythm relies on variety.

EMPHASIS - Emphasis deals with the parts of a design that are meant to stand out. In most cases, this means the most important information the design is meant to convey.

HARMONY - Harmony can be described as regularity, the belonging of one thing with another. to achieve harmony to create a composition the repetition of design elements like colour, texture, shape, and form can be made.

As an architecture student since the past 7 years+ the scope of developing my artistic front has not been possible.in this project, Artists lab, I would like to enhance my skills and try my hands on the different medium. As a designer, we use artistic elements and principles to help create beautiful and effective designs. This mixed media painting series will make you more aware of those design principles. The project consists of 12 square sized paintings in mixed medium, mostly acrylic and different type of textures made with plaster of Paris, paper Mache etc.
Here are the elements and principles which would be depicted in the paintings.

The basic elements of design are:
1.Line
2.Shape
3.Form
4.Space
