Ein Internetzugang steht über das WiFi Netzwerk "eduroam" zur Verfügung. Falls Sie kein Universitätslogin haben, melden Sie sich bitte rechtzeitig, damit wir einen Gastzugang beantragen können.

If you feel you have something interesting to share, please contact us. We are always looking for interesting things to share and talk about.

Typically, we have two presentations per meeting. There is a projector with VGA and HDMI Connector. If you bring your presentation on a USB-Stick, please use either Mac-Keynote or PDF, because we may or may not find a Windows-PC with Powerpoint.

To connect to the internet, you can use the "eduroam" WiFi network. If you have no University login, please get in touch, so we can arrange a guest account.

==Description==
We will find out about technical foundations of electronics with examples of circuits for analog synthesizers. Starting from discussing simple components, working through some theretical background, we will start to understand more complex circuits like voltage controlled filters and oscillators.
In the final part of the course we think of controling analog circuits with analog sensors. Each student should think of an experimental interface concept and build it.

==Admission requirements==
No knowledge in electronics is required. You should, however, bring quite an amount of curiosity to follow the course. Please send a motivational letter to clemens.wegener (at) uni-weimar (dot)de. For buying components, we need a little budget of 20-30€. Of course you can keep your manufactured works.

==Description==
Printed Electronics can turn everyday objects into interfaces for the digital world.
We will use screen printing with conductive ink to print our own designs on paper, leather, or glass and use them as buttons or slider with the help of microcontrollers such as Arduino. This way we we create objects which serve as input devices for digital functionalities.
We will first take a look at the basic qualities and possibilities of printed electronics, as well as the characteristics of the tools we are going to use. Here we focus on the screen printing methos and the concept of capacitive sensing with Arduino. Students will design their own objects which we will print on and connect to an Arduino in our second meeting.

==Admission requirements==
Knowledge in Hard- and Software would be appreciated, but is not a requirement. For buying electronic components, a little budget of 20€ to 30€ is neccessary. Of course you can keep your manufactured works.

== Description (EN) ==
There will be a cooperation between our course and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The main project will be closely related to the new "Thüringer Kulturportale", which is a touristic information portal located in Weimar and Eisenach and should provide informations about satellite places that are connected to the main hubs. We want to work on ideas for digital mobile projects that lead to and from the satellites to the main hub. We intend to showcase the most successful concepts and ideas during a temporary exhibition at the New Bauhaus Museum in Weimar.

We will also have a chance to have workshops with the agency that will develop the "Thüringer Kulturportal" as well as gain an insight of the Klassik Stiftung that works on new and innovative forms of informing about the cultural and historical heritage using interactive and participatory forms of engagement. Some excursions are planned to look at other forms of digital and artistic presentations, for example a new interactive audio guide in Dresden.

== Description (English) ==

We're going mobile: Grab your mobile, let's go outside!

We will cross through space (walk, rush, hike, drive...), we'll look at how ubiquitous location aware technology has changed our perception of space. What's virtual space and how does it interact with physical space; are augmented information layers altering our perception of space?

We'll look at classic navigation systems (maps, compass, waysigns, environmental and micronavigation...) and how technology, equipped with GPS, WiFi, cell triangulation and location based services, changes our spacial understanding and behavior. Does technology change our understanding of distance?

We will also discuss standard and contemporary space theories, apply techniques of Lucius Burckhardt's strollology (Spaziergangswissenschaft), Guy Debord's dérive and psychogeography, log and collect data (with cameras, microphones, GPS and magnetometer sensors...), go out in field excursions and most of all create, run and evaluate well defined experiments to see what can be done with this data in an artistic or applied context.

The expected outcome is a deeper understanding how location based technology works in practice and how mobile interfaces can be optimized to support movement in space. The final assignment is pretty open, it could be (either, not all!):

* a functional prototype of an app concept (or an app of course!)
* a (wearable) accessory (prototype or working proof-of-concept)
* in-depth user evaluation of one or more existing applications
* or a scientific paper, researching a specific location based / mobile topic

We're going mobile: Packt die Geräte ein, wir gehen raus!

Dieses Semester nehmen wir "Mobile Devices" wörtlich: wir durchschreiten den Raum (spatio -> spazieren), untersuchen wie mobile ubiquitäre Technik unser räumliches Verständnis und unser Verhalten verändert. Was ist virtueller und physischer Raum, wo überlagern sich beide, welche neuen augmentierten Räume entstehen dadurch? Welche klassischen Navigationssysteme im Raum (Markierungen, Zeichen, Wegweiser, Wegleitsysteme, Karten, Kompass, Sterne...) gibt es und wie verändern moderne Gerätschaften mit GPS, WiFi & Mobilfunk Triangulation oder Location Based Social Services unsere Wahrnehmung von Raum.

Welche Daten können mit Kamera, Mikrofon, Sensorik und GPS bzw. allgemein "Data Loggern" erfasst werden und welche Auswertungen, Visualisierung oder Sonifizierungsmöglichkeiten gibt es für diese Daten? Welche künstlerischen, erzählerischen oder angewandten Strategien gibt es zur Auseinandersetzung mit Raum, Navigation und Technik, welche Auswirkung hat Technik auf Empfindung von Distanzen?

Wir werden und mit grundlegenden und aktuellen Raumtheorien auseinandersetzen, Techniken wie Lucius Burckhardts Spaziergangswissenschaft, Guy Debords Theory of Dérive oder Psychogeographie anwenden, Daten aufzeichnen, existerende aktuelle Technologien (Outdoor-Activity Planner) nutzen und vor allem in Feldversuchen testen, Experimente erstellen, durchführen und evaluieren, wie man mit und ohne Technik durch den Raum navigiert und uns künstlerische Auseinandersetzungen mit Raumrezeption und zeitlicher Dimensionen ansehen.

Ergebnisse des Moduls können Analysen, (App-) Konzepte, künstlerische Installation oder tatsächliche Umsetzungen sein. Das Modul kann auch zur unterstützenden Evaluierung von ortsbezogenen Projekten genutzt werden.

== Description (English) ==

We're going mobile: Grab your mobile, let's go outside!

We will cross through space (walk, rush, hike, drive...), we'll look at how ubiquitous location aware technology has changed our perception of space. What's virtual space and how does it interact with physical space; are augmented information layers altering our perception of space?

We'll look at classic navigation systems (maps, compass, waysigns, environmental and micronavigation...) and how technology, equipped with GPS, WiFi, cell triangulation and location based services, changes our spacial understanding and behavior. Does technology change our understanding of distance?

We will also discuss standard and contemporary space theories, apply techniques of Lucius Burckhardt's strollology (Spaziergangswissenschaft), Guy Debord's dérive and psychogeography, log and collect data (with cameras, microphones, GPS and magnetometer sensors...), go out in field excursions and most of all create, run and evaluate well defined experiments to see what can be done with this data in an artistic or applied context.

The expected outcome is a deeper understanding how location based technology works in practice and how mobile interfaces can be optimized to support movement in space. The final assignment is pretty open, it could be (either, not all!):

* a functional prototype of an app concept (or an app of course!)
* a (wearable) accessory (prototype or working proof-of-concept)
* in-depth user evaluation of one or more existing applications
* or a scientific paper, researching a specific location based / mobile topic

Dieses Semester nehmen wir "Mobile Devices" wörtlich: wir durchschreiten den Raum (spatio -> spazieren), untersuchen wie mobile ubiquitäre Technik unser räumliches Verständnis und unser Verhalten verändert. Was ist virtueller und physischer Raum, wo überlagern sich beide, welche neuen augmentierten Räume entstehen dadurch? Welche klassischen Navigationssysteme im Raum (Markierungen, Zeichen, Wegweiser, Wegleitsysteme, Karten, Kompass, Sterne...) gibt es und wie verändern moderne Gerätschaften mit GPS, WiFi & Mobilfunk Triangulation oder Location Based Social Services unsere Wahrnehmung von Raum.

Welche Daten können mit Kamera, Mikrofon, Sensorik und GPS bzw. allgemein "Data Loggern" erfasst werden und welche Auswertungen, Visualisierung oder Sonifizierungsmöglichkeiten gibt es für diese Daten? Welche künstlerischen, erzählerischen oder angewandten Strategien gibt es zur Auseinandersetzung mit Raum, Navigation und Technik, welche Auswirkung hat Technik auf Empfindung von Distanzen?

Wir werden und mit grundlegenden und aktuellen Raumtheorien auseinandersetzen, Techniken wie Lucius Burckhardts Spaziergangswissenschaft, Guy Debords Theory of Dérive oder Psychogeographie anwenden, Daten aufzeichnen, existerende aktuelle Technologien (Outdoor-Activity Planner) nutzen und vor allem in Feldversuchen testen, Experimente erstellen, durchführen und evaluieren, wie man mit und ohne Technik durch den Raum navigiert und uns künstlerische Auseinandersetzungen mit Raumrezeption und zeitlicher Dimensionen ansehen.

The expected outcome is a deeper understanding how location based technology works in practice and how mobile interfaces can be optimized to support movement in space. The final assignment is pretty open, it could be (either, not all!):

We're going mobile: Grab your mobile, let's go outside!

We will cross through space (walk, rush, hike, drive...), we'll look at how ubiquitous location aware technology has changed our perception of space. What's virtual space and how does it interact with physical space; are augmented information layers altering our perception of space?

We'll look at classic navigation systems (maps, compass, waysigns, environmental and micronavigation...) and how technology, equipped with GPS, WiFi, cell triangulation and location based services, changes our spacial understanding and behavior. Does technology change our understanding of distance?
