This is a work about my experience. I have been living in my hometown, Beijing, over 20 years. Then I started my life aboard in Germany. As I stayed longer aboard, I found the differences of mass media between different regimes.
The sounds in this work represent the voices of media. On one side there is a repeated melody, on the other side there are many different sounds which have been replaced in different position. Once you are walking in this scene you will hear a variety of music which is composed of the sounds.

This video is about the reflection on a future vision of information and communications. It shows on Wikipedia that there were at least 230 companies developing VR-related products by 2016. It has been widely known that VR technology is used in games and entertainment industry. However it hasn’t been limited in these games and entertainment, for example NASA and Microsoft cooperate to apply the Hololens system to the space station ,so that the astronauts can learn various operations in aerospace quickly.
There are more and more ways virtual reality can be used which provide benefits to us. Thus, increasingly parts of our life will be possibly covered by virtual reality in the future and each other will be connected through the Internet. By that time people will not be limited by reality and are able to step into an infinite platform where include numerous information and decisions. Then it brings a new discussion for us if the system build one’s personality or one can make more and more individual decisions through the system. The black and white animated part shows one’s activities from perspective in reality. The rest parts are the view in virtual reality.

Lecturer: [https://www.uni-weimar.de/kunst-und-gestaltung/wiki/Jörg_Brinkmann Jörg Brinkmann]
Credits: 6 ECTS, 4 SWS
Date: Fri/Sat/Sun 01.-03.12.2017, 11:00 Uhr - 19:00
Venue: Performance Platform, Digital Bauhaus Lab (Room 001)
First meeting: Friday, October 13th 2017, 17:00

Critical VR experiences acknowledge Virtual Reality to be both a new opportunity and another dilemma.

A critical VR experience designer is informed about the past and present of art, philosophy and activism. She/He embraces and repurposes established strategies from several disciplines to create critical experiences that deconstruct and provoke skepticism of immersive and primarily entertaining user experiences.

This course emphasises artistic and opposing ways of working with Virtual Reality. Its aim is to establish individual approaches to VR, an increasingly widespread medium which offers artists new possibilities for expression and intercultural communication.

The practical part will be an Introduction into Unity 3D and Blender as well as the technology of the Digital Bauhaus Lab. We will look into contemporary and digital art related to recent socio-political and media-philosophical topics. We will create an artistic discourse on the topic of VR which will be presented in the form of individual projects at the end of the semester.

'''CRITERIA FOR PASSING'''
In order to successfully participate you will have to develop and document your own project that can be in the form of a performance, video work or installation for example. Also, regularly attend to the sessions and participation is mandatory.

'''LANGUAGE'''
The course will be in English, unless all participants are speaking German.

'''APPLICATION'''
The black and white animated part shows one’s activities from perspective in reality. The rest parts are the view in virtual reality.
Lecturer: [https://www.uni-weimar.de/kunst-und-gestaltung/wiki/Jörg_Brinkmann Jörg Brinkmann]
Credits: 6 ECTS, 4 SWS
Date: Thursdays 17:00-20:30
Venue: Performance Platform, Digital Bauhaus Lab (Room 001)
First meeting: Thursday, October 12th 2017, 17:00

We live in weird times, where Internet memes could start a Third World War, where the Internet offers the hope of transcultural communication and at the same time creates an uncontrollable chaos of shitstorms and cyberbullying that makes it seem like we are
thrown ‘back into the future’ of the digital Middle Ages.

How do we define authenticity and sincerity in times of fake news and post-truth politics? When laptops and smartphones become an important part of self-fulfillment and identity, when everybody can be a ‘news’ reporter, who can you believe to be sincere?

This course asks the recurring, ever haunting question of what is authentic. Has the search for it always been a deceptive road? How real does authenticity need to be today?

We will investigate, question and challenge modern and historical concepts related to the topic and create performative works that can be presented in the form of live performances, video works or installations. The course supports and excercises independent,
self-motivated work. Together, we will create an environment in which students can produce and discuss their own subjects related to the matter.
