This course emphasises artistic and opposing ways of working with Virtual Reality. Its aim is to establish individual approaches to VR, an increasingly widespread medium which &lt;br /&gt;
offers artists new possibilities for expression and intercultural communication.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The practical part will be an Introduction to Unity 3D and Blender. We will look into contemporary and digital art related to recent sociopolitical and mediaphilosophical topics. We will create an artistic discourse on&lt;br /&gt;
the topic of VR which will be presented in the form of individual projects at the end of the semester.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&#039;&#039;&#039;CRITERIA FOR PASSING&#039;&#039;&#039;&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
In order to successfully participate you will have to develop and document your own project on the GMU Wiki. Also, regularly attend to the sessions and participation is mandatory.  &lt;br /&gt;

Concept:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
My Idea of a VR animated short film is the story of a young boy experiencing a repeating dream and also has to learn to face his fears. He is tasked to take over control of his dreams.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This VR installation is one scenario/location of his Dreams. The aim was to create an environment that feels inviting, exciting, mystic and comfortable at the same time.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Aestetics:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
For its not a real place I allowed myself to become trippy to a certain degree. All textures are pieces taken from impressionistic paintings. The paintings are well known but for my project they are only important for the effect.&lt;br /&gt;

Concept:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
My Idea of a VR animated short film is the story of a young boy experiencing a repeating dream and also has to learn to face his fears. He is tasked to take over control of his dreams.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This VR installation is one scenario/location of his Dreams. The aim was to create an environment that feels inviting, exciting, mystic and comfortable at the same time.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Aestetics:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
For its not a real place I allowed myself to become trippy to a certain degree. All textures are pieces taken from impressionistic paintings. The paintings are well known but for my project they are only important for the effect.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The best and most interesting part of this project were the different reactions of the people experiencing my project. (A lot excitement!)&lt;br /&gt;

Everyone talks about VR nowadays, but aren’t sites like Facebook and Instagram already their own form of virtual reality being fed on a daily basis by disembodied snippets of our lives? Do we have to worry that soon the real world will be in second place? &lt;br /&gt;

In this course, we will be inspired and challenged by different artistic approaches that embrace “the virtual” as a concept, aesthetic, or technique. We will start by using simple methods to help amplify and channel our ideas and concepts through media and technology. Furthermore, we will use Unity 3D to create our very own virtual worlds, objects, or avatars which will include integrating virtual reality devices like the HTC VIVE. This course involves working with, but is not limited to, the Performance Platform at the Digital Bauhaus Lab.&lt;br /&gt;
