eTutor-Training

The eTutor training is a free offer for students.

The training topics are taught in hybrid and online workshops. There are also Moodle self-study rooms that allow students to learn asynchronously on their own.

The next round of training will start in the winter semester 2024/25.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact cathleen.schoene[at]uni-weimar.de.

  •  show which framework conditions have a significant influence on planning and
  •  explain how these should be taken into account.

H5P and Moodle | online | Martina Gerhardt and Torben Zsagar

In order to provide teachers with the best possible support for technical implementation, eTutors should be familiar with the basics of the Moodle learning management system and H5P.

Learning objective: eTutors learn the basics of creating their own Moodle course step by step and gain an overview of the various functions and design options.

Aim: to help students develop technical competencies to experimentally extend and map objects between real and virtual space and integrate them into virtual and hybrid settings.

Methodology: The program will consist of an introductory workshop and self-study tasks where students learn basic technical skills for the digital transfer of objects which allow for further exploration, analysis, experimentation and prototyping within their fields of study.

Hybride Teaching | online | Maren Würfel and Petra Lepetit

The course deals with the basics of hybrid higher education teaching. It is structured as follows:

  1. Terms and concepts
  2. Advantages and challenges
  3. Scenarios and technical challenges
  4. Methodological and didactic basics

Video Basics | online | Dorothea Warneck, Svea Benett and Zaryab Chaudhry

After successfully completing the course, you will be able to:

  • articulate your understanding of the use of copyrighted works in courses and learning materials.
  • apply the rules for using copyrighted works and open content.
  • recognize what type of copyrighted work it is and how it may or may not be used for higher education teaching.
  • combine their knowledge with practical application scenarios from their field of activity as an eTutor and implement them with little effort.

The eTutor-Training is an offer of the eTeach Network Thuringia.

With the free training courses offered by the eTeach Network Thuringia, students are trained as eTutors and can then provide support in the preparation and design of (digital) higher education teaching.

What is an eTutor? These are students from Thuringian universities who specifically support lecturers in using digital forms of teaching and learning and integrating digital tools into their teaching. The students who are to complete the training are selected by lecturers and trained and supported by the eTutor-Training team in a variety of topics.

What are the goals of the eTutor training course? After successfully completing the training, eTutors can support the development and creation of teaching materials and courses or even implement their own teaching projects. You will have learned about the following topics and will be able to apply what you have learned:

    • Formats of media-enriched higher education teaching and appropriate methods
    • Use and design of multimedia learning resources
    • Use of digital tools (especially videos, LMS such as Moodle and video conferencing systems)
    • Digital examination formats, both summative and formative
    • Dealing with copyright and data privacy in higher education teaching

How can you take part in the eTutor-Training? You can complete the entire program or only take part in individual topics. You are free to choose how you approach the topics. Each topic can be completed as a self-learner and/or by participating in the workshops (+ any self-learning tasks, the scope of which depends on the topic area).

Note for foreign language students: We are currently working on opening up our training to foreign-language students. The content and tasks of all Moodle rooms are already available in English. This means that foreign-language students who do not speak/understand German can complete the eTutor training in self-study mode.

However, we are also endeavoring to make the online/hybride-workshops more accessible. If there are a sufficient number of registrations from foreign-language students, we would therefore endeavor to also offer the online/hybrid-workshops in English. You can indicate this in the registration form.

The certificate of the eTutor-Training

Participants of the training can receive a certificate if they attend at least 4 topics:

  • in the online workshops and complete associated tasks OR in the self-training rooms in Moodle and complete all associated tasks
  • AND submit a final task (max. 3-minute video pitch or presentation or audio pitch)
  • AND attend the closing event.

The closing event of the training will take place on - to be announced

Note: If you have already completed individual topics of our training course as part of your studies or another training course, we will be happy to take this into account in the requirements for obtaining our certificate. Please contact cathleen.schoene[at]uni-weimar.de in this regard.

Review of the 5th round of eTutor-Training in winter semester 23/24

After a break in summer semester 2023, we started the training round of winter semester 23/24 with our extended range of modules.  We were all the more pleased about the committed cooperation of the participating students. Seven students completed the course with all tasks and obtained their certificate. This semester, students were asked to submit a video pitch, a presentation or an audio pitch on a topic and/or tool from the course as their final task.

The 4th round of eTutor-Training in winter semester 22/23

This semester, 22 students took part in our training course on media-enriched teaching and are now able to integrate digital tools into teaching and learning formats in a didactically meaningful way. In addition to their knowledge of the basics of media didactics, their skills also extend to the basics of copyright law, data protection and the creation of multimedia learning resources.

We made it! The 3rd round of our eTutor-Training in summer semester 2022 is complete.

We are delighted that many students from Thuringian universities have once again taken part in our training course.

It is clear that our eTutors are taking advantage of the flexibility of the training format and the choice of many topics. 72 students have registered. Most of them specifically chose the workshops and modules that were interesting and beneficial for them. 12 students completed the course with all tasks and received a certificate at the end.

Congratulations!

This semester, the eTutors also produced a video pitch as part of their final assignment and presented it at the closing event.

Review of the 2nd round of eTutor-Training in winter semester 2021/22

Be brave! +++ Take enough time. +++ Trust your own plan! +++ Find a common thread +++ Plan well. +++ The final event of the current eTutor-Training course, which took place on March 4, ended with these tips for creating video pitches. The 23 video pitches presented by the eTutors were characterized by a wide variety of topics and styles.  A selection of the videos can be viewed here.

In the pitches, the training topics were developed further in many cases and own media-enriched and digitally supported teaching projects were presented. The eTutors were mainly concerned with learning management systems and the integration of H5P, hybrid forms of teaching and remote access to learning scenarios as well as better interaction and communication in teaching. The newly qualified eTutors emphasized the variety of topics, the modular structure of the training concept and the support provided by the network staff. A total of 50 students took part in the eTutor training course in the winter semester.

Review of the 1st round of eTutor-Training in summer semester 2021

"As a tutor of many years' standing, I find it very pleasing that your program is a nationwide and cross-university offer for knowledge transfer and exchange. It has enabled me to learn a few new things and also gain insights into areas that are otherwise given less consideration. I think this is very welcome. Many thanks for that! I'm already looking forward to a possible continuation." --- Student at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences after completing the course

This positive feedback was one of the reasons why the first round of eTutor training ended in June 2021, with a total of 71 students and ten other participants from almost all Thuringian universities taking part. The eTutors received their certificates at the final presentation on June 26, 2021. In addition to the acquired knowledge of media didactics and the basics of copyright law, data protection and accessibility in the creation of multimedia learning resources, the newly qualified eTutors are now able to integrate digital tools into teaching-learning formats in a didactically meaningful way and thus support teachers at Thuringian universities. The video results below provide an insight into the process and results of the training:
