The world leading multidisciplinary scientific journal Nature as well as further Research Journals unter Nature (38 journals) und Reviews Journals (27 journals) brands are now available from within the university network. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entered a consortial Publish & Read agreement at the beginning of the year. University members now have reading access to the entire Nature Portfolio as well as OpenAccess publishing options in hybrid Research Journals.
The consortial agreement for 2025 through 2028 was made possible by negotiations between Springer Nature, the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) and the Technische Informationsbibliothek Hannover (TIB).
2. Springer E-Books
Until the end of the year, Springer Engineering and Springer Computer Science e-books from 2023 and 2024 are available through the university library. Both collections grant access to a broad range of English language literature on a temporary basis. After the initial period, individual titles will be selected for permanent access based on usage.
The individual works are listed in the library catalogue and are available from within the university network on the publisher’s own platform SpringerNature. University members may also use Shibboleth or VPN to gain access from outside the network.
3. More standards available in Nautos
The university library has expanded its license. Nautos now features »ISO standards« and English language »DIN standards«. Once a DIN standard is chosen, a symbol allows for the language selection of either German or English for full text display.
Nautos is available from within the university network. University members may also use VPN to gain access from outside the network.
More information and the link for access can be found in the database information system DBIS.
4. Kunstforum International now available online
In addition to the print edition of Kunstforum International university members can now access the online edition by shibboleth. This way you can comfortably access current issues and archived issues back to 1973 from home. Kunstforum International is one of the leading journals for contemporary art and offers sound essays, deep analytical articles and extensive interviews with renowned artists, curators and theorists. Focus issues on current topics and movements in the art industry make the journal indispensible for anyone who wants to get to grips with contemporary art.
5. LinkedIn Learning for university members will be discontinued
Evaluation shows that LinkedIn Learning is not being used as much at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as expected. After consultation with university committees, the university library will therefore let the service expire on February 28th 2025. The freed up budget is earmarked for other interesting information services for the university.
6. »Bewegung und Stillstand« – Exhibition in the library lobby on the last university year in the GDR

Until February 25th, the exhibition »Bewegung und Stillstand - Das letzte Studienjahr in der DDR« places a focus on a defining period in recent German history by showing photos and documents from 1989’s university environment. The wandering exhibition is a cooperative project of the universities in Chemnitz, Halle/Saale, Jena, Leipzig, Magdeburg and Weimar. The idea is especially to point out the dangers of an ideological higher education system to the younger generation and to spark reflection on dictatorship and democracy.
