1. Very good evaluation results for the university library

To evaluate the service and admin procedures at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, all staff members were polled in May and June of this year. 90% of those who said anything about the library gave us 5 or 6 out of 6 stars, and 68% gave us top marks – we’re quite proud of that result. We were especially happy to hear the library described in terms like »reliable and capable partner«, »excellent library«, »exceptional institution « and even »best practice example for service oriented higher education admin«. The large amount of positive feedback to specific library services is also motivating. Of course, we look closely at all replies, and we also thank everyone for their critical replies.

2. Teaching Award for »Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten@Bauhaus«

During the »summæry« the Student Council conferred the 2024/25 Teaching Awards to exceptional Bauhaus-Universität Weimar teaching formats of the past year. A special award for boosting community spirit was given to the course »Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten@Bauhaus«, a joint effort of the University Strategic Development Office, the Bauhaus Research School and the university library. All students are invited to subscribe to the module and make use of it throughout their time at the university. In the winter semester 2025/26, live lectures will be held as part of the course - anyone interested is welcome.
You can find more information as well as all award winners in Bauhaus.Journal Online.

3. Limona passage temporarily closed

Due to urgent construction work, the passage between the library main building and the Limona building will be closed from August 18th. We expect to be able to reopen the passage on September 1st. To limit the impact on visiting the library and keep the Limona books  and workspaces available, we’re going to open the Schützengasse entrance to the Limona building. You’ll find all the information you need to know on our website.
We do apologize in advance for any inconvenience during the construction period.

4. VII. Weimar Silent Film Retrospective – in the Lichthaus theater from August 25th

The university library participates in the organization of the VII. Weimar Silent Film Retrospective from August 25th to September 5th, during which selected silent films will be screened accompanied by live music. As an established part of the Weimar Kunstfest, it contextualizes one of the most significant periods of film history: across ten evenings, 13 different films will be screened, all of which were in Weimar theaters in 1925. Highlights in this year’s retrospective include the grand film concert »Verflixte Gastfreundschaft« in the Belvedere Castle Musikgymnasium on September 5th as well as the following event: on August 27th, 7pm, before the screening of the film »Die freudlose Gasse«, film researchers and founders of the Kinothek Asta Nielsen e. V. (Frankfurt/Main) Karola Gramann and Prof. Dr. Heide Schlüpmann will be speaking on »Filme wider den Blöff der Stabilität« (films that challenge the illusion of stability) and the role that Asta Nielsen plays in them.
You are invited! The schedule is available on our website.
The Weimar silent film retrospective is a part of Kunstfest Weimar and a coopreative effort of Lichthaus Kino, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Stadtarchiv Weimar and Kunstfest Weimar.

5. »WE CANNOT IGNORE ME/CFS« – Film screening and panel discussion at Kunstfest Weimar 2025

A low quality of life, isolation from society to the point of disappearance and under-funded research – these are the key words currently associated with the disease Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). To make the consequences of this ignored disease visible and put them up for debate, Kunstfest Weimar in cooperation with the university library will be holding the event »WE CANNOT IGNORE ME/CFS« on August 21st at 7pm.
In the first part of the event, the film »UNREST« (USA 2017, 97 Minutes) will be screened. It shows the daily life of the ME/CFS afflicted researcher Jennifer Brea, who also directed the film. Following the film there will be a panel discussion chaired by Jasmin Degeling (Bauhaus University Weimar) with contributions from Jürgen Dusel (federal government commissioner for matters relating to persons with disabilities), Bruno Kolterer (paediatrician specialising in child cardiology), Lilli Hallmann (advisor for Thüringia for NichtGenesenKids e. V., representing relatives and carers) and those who have been affected from the ME/CFS network for Thüringia about the mechanisms that render ME/CFS invisible and possible ways to overcome discrimination against those affected and their relatives and carers.
This event is held as a cooperative effort of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Kunstfest Weimar, Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Thüringen, Lichthaus Kino Weimar and NichtGenesenKids e. V.

6. Library closed on September 4th
