Journal Forum Stadt

The IHZ takes over the editorship of the quarterly magazine Forum Stadt.

From the beginning of 2025, the IHZ and Dr. Nadin Augustiniok will take over the editorship of the renowned and long-established specialist journal Forum Stadt (http://www.forum-stadt.eu/start/Zeitschrift.html ), which was founded in 1973 and was published under the name ‘Die Alte Stadt’ from 1978 to 2010. The journal for urban history, urban sociology, monument preservation and urban development is published quarterly and is supported by the association Forum Stadt - Netzwerk historischer Städte e.V., an association of currently around 80 cities chaired by the Mayor of Esslingen, Matthias Klopfer. Following the resignation of the previous editor-in-chief, Hans Schultheiß, who successfully oversaw the magazine for forty years, there will now be a change of editor-in-chief to the IHZ. At the same time, there will be a change of publisher. From 2025, the magazine will be published in an updated layout by Bauhaus-Universitätsverlag of the arts + science weimar publishing group. The editor-in-chief is supported by an editorial team, which currently consists of:

Dr. Robert Kaltenbrunner, Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development

Sen. Prof. Dr. Hans-Rudolf Meier, IHZ, Bauhaus University Weimar

Prof. Dr. Klaus Jan Philipp, Institute for Art History, University of Stuttgart

Dr. habil. Olaf Schnur, Federal Association for Housing and Urban Development

Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig, IfEU, Bauhaus University Weimar

Prof Dr. Christina Simon-Philipp, University of Applied Sciences, Stuttgart

Two to three magazines are published each year focussing on specific topics, for example next year on 50 years of the European Architectural Heritage Year, on detached houses and on city and nature. The journal also offers the opportunity to publish free articles in the field of urban research as well as reviews and shorter forum contributions. All relevant researchers and especially younger academics are encouraged to submit contributions and suggestions for themed issues to:
