Library introduction
Starting the winter term 2023/24 we offer the following services to first year students:

Getting started
- With your enrollment you are automatically registered for library use.
- Your thoska is your library card
- You can log in to your library account with the following data:
- Library number: Can be found on the back of your thoska (3401...)
- Password: Default is your date of birth in the form DDMMYY
Your library visit
- Library opening hours: Monday-Friday 9am-11pm, Saturday 10am-6pm.
- Service hours (staffed service and information desks): Monday to Friday 9am-6pm.
- Please be considerate of other users in the library and behave in such a way that undisturbed work is possible.
- Carrels and group rooms for undisturbed work can be booked online.
- Eating and drinking is not permitted in the library (with the exception of water).

Self-service, borrowing and fees
- You can use two self-service terminals in the service area to borrow items. Additionally, there is a book drop in the entrance area.
- You may borrow up to 50 items at a time.
- Items can usually be borrowed for four weeks. Some items, like DVDs, can only be borrowed for one week.
- If no other patron places a reservation, you may renew your loan online up to ten times.
- Please return items in time, as otherwise fees will be raised:
- 1st reminder: 1.50 EUR per item
- 2nd reminder: 2.50 EUR per item in addition to 1st reminder fee
- 3rd reminder: 4.00 EUR per item in addition to 1st and 2nd reminder fees
Finding books and other items
- Start your search in the Discovery Service BibSearch or the online catalogue (OPAC). Both systems contain information on the whole library collection (print and electronic).
- For books, journals and other items from the open access shelving areas, you will be provided with their exact location and borrowing conditions. You can retrieve and borrow these items by yourself.
- Items shelved in the closed stacks can be requested directly in BibSearch and the online catalogue. They will be delivered to the service area at fixed times (Mon-Fri 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm) and will remain available for you to borrow or view for five opening days.
- Licensed e-books and e-journals will be linked to directly in BibSearch and in the OPAC. A list of the most important e-book services is available online.
- From within the university network you will be able to access all licensed items with your university login.
- From outside the university network, please use the authentication service Shibboleth or set up a VPN connection her.
- Are you missing important materials for your studies? Simply make an inter-library loan or suggest an item for our collection.
