The now-annual prize will be awarded to a graduating student whose final thesis was supervised by a Fine Arts Department professorship and who has shown excellence in their artistic pursuits.
The winner will be selected by an international jury. The members of the 2019 jury are Marianne Dobner (curator, mumok museum moderne kunst stiftung ludwig, Vienna), Anna Redeker (independent curator, Berlin) and Anka Ziefer (director, G2 Kunsthalle, Leipzig).
In this year’s run-up to summaery, the jury has shortlisted three candidates for the award based on submitted portfolios. The shortlisted candidates will present their works in the group exhibition nomansland at the NOVA art space.
The public award ceremony will take place on Friday 12 July at 6 pm during the exhibition at the NOVA art space, located in Berkaer Straße 11.
Matthias Wiegand from Friedrichroda has been producing spirits at the Wiegand Manufactur Weimar (WMW) since 2011. The Lyonel Art Award is named after the award-winning Lyonel Dry Gin (named after the first Bauhaus master, Lyonel Feininger).
