»How political is Bauhaus?« – Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presents a panel discussion

On Wednesday 30 January 2019 at 6 pm, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invites you to what is for now the final panel discussion of the »Mensch Macht Moderne« event series in the university’s Oberlichtsaal. The discussion will focus on the question of how political Bauhaus is and what responsibility this heritage creates for the Bauhaus-Universität. Anyone interested in the topic is welcome to attend.

The Bauhaus Centenary falls in strained political times: globalisation, climate change, populism and migration are creating upheaval and uncertainty in broad swathes of the population. What is the social responsibility of a university like the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar? Is there any particular obligation stemming from the heritage of Bauhaus? Should the University express a political opinion? And what self-image goes with being an »international university«? How can University members counteract the threat of divisions in society with their research and teaching activities? What can and should the University do?

These questions will be tackled in what is for now the last panel discussion in the »Mensch Macht Moderne« series, being held on Wednesday 30 January 2019 at 6 pm in the Oberlichtsaal in the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Main Building. It will also include a presentation of the results of the current Thüringen Monitor, a long-term study on political culture in the Free State of Thuringia.

The participants in the panel discussion are Dr. Axel Salheiser (Centre for Right-Wing Extremism Democracy, Democratisation and Social Integration, »Komrex« at the University of Jena), Prof. Ursula Damm (senate member and Professor of Media Environments) and Prof. Dr. Frank Eckardt (Professor of Urban Studies and Social Research).
