In this year's ADC University Creative Index, the Free State of Thuringia takes an outstanding third place. This is based on the excellent achievements of students from the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, who were successful in the renowned ADC Talent Award.
From 9 to 11 November 2023, a unique international short film festival will take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: only films that work without dialogue and language barriers will be shown. From a total of 2,256 submissions from 118 countries, 67 works were selected to be shown over three days of the festival.
The Startup Hub »neudeli« has been the central point for those interested in starting their own business since 2001. The Hub has recently secured funding through the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action’s (BMWK) »EXIST-Women« programme. neudeli will be receiving up to 105,000 euros, as well as the opportunity to provide women founders with scholarships through the neudeli »empowHER« programme.

Im November 2022 haben die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die MFPA Weimar die Patenschaft übernommen und tragen den Wettbewerb seither gemeinsam aus.
Der Arbeitskreis Thüringer Universitäts- und Hochschularchive erhält den Thüringer Archivpreis 2023. Die Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen und der Landesverband Thüringen im Verband Deutscher Archivarinnen und Archivare (VDA) würdigen damit dessen Verdienste um die Entwicklung der Archive akademischer Lehreinrichtungen in Thüringen.
Covering just under 10 square metres, the energy self-sufficient experimental building is a prime example of how architecture can be sustainably rethought and implemented. Following months of effort by students from various disciplines, the experimental building will celebrate its topping-out ceremony on Thursday, October 26, 2023, starting at 4 p.m. in the courtyard of Coudraystrasse 11 to 13. The building’s »Tiny House« concept will be presented in a relaxed event. Interested individuals and media are warmly invited to attend the event.
How are architecture, urbanism and urban planning used by authoritarian regimes for government-stabilising purposes? What are the effects of these authoritarian practices at the local level? These questions are among those which will be addressed by academic at the annual conference of the Institute for European Urban Studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 9 to 11 November 2023.

September 2023 die Ergebnisse des deutsch-polnischen Forschungsprojekts »Schriftstellerinnen aus der Sammlung Varnhagen. Briefe – Werke – Relationen« auf der durch die Thüringer Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek (ThULB) in Jena gehostete Website schriftstellerinnen-varnhagen.eu öffentlich gemacht. Die digitale Edition ist in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Jagiellonen Bibliothek in Krakau, der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und der Agentur v3 consulting (München) entstanden.
On 27 September 2023, the »Freibad-Kolonnade« [»Outdoor Pool Colonnade«] design-build project was conferred second prize in the 2023 Thuringian environmental awards. The project was initiated by the Junior Professorship for »Konstruktives Entwerfen und Erproben« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the south Thuringian community of Rippershausen. It successfully prevailed over more than 40 projects submitted for the competition that champions exemplary commitment to climate protection and resource efficiency.

Radio in Germany is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023. To mark this occasion, the artistic research project »Listening to the World – 100 Years of Radio« is exploring listening as a global phenomenon. Sound artists and researchers as well as radio practitioners and theorists came together in Montevideo (March 2023) and Manila/Sagada (August 2023) to examine the past, present and future of regional and transregional listening during workshops. On 21 and 22 October 2023, the preliminary outcomes of the cooperative project between the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Goethe-Institut and Deutschlandfunk Kultur will now be presented at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin.
On Thursday, 5 October 2023, a discussion series with Shoah survivors and their descendants, speakers from Israel and Germany, and lecturers and students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will take place on campus as part of Thuringia’s ACHAVA Festspiele. All interested parties are warmly invited to join. The series will take place on »Seat#12«, a seating installation by artist and Faculty of Media staff member Jenny Brockmann. The installation will be exhibited in the Main Building especially for this day and is intended to inspire a lively space for discussion.
On Friday 29 September 2023 from 6 to 10 p.m., the fifth episode of the »POWER HOUSE« exhibition series will open in Weimar’s Schiller-Museum. The series marks the 100th anniversary of the first Bauhaus exhibition. nova space, the University Gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, is hosting the exhibition under the title »energy rising« in reference to the many forms of energy flow.
With their joint Bachelor’s thesis on a type of low-emission biocement entitled »The Essence of Biocement«, the two Produktdesign (Product Design) alumni of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have reached the international selection round of the renowned James Dyson Award as runners-up in the Germany-wide competition. Each year, the competition calls on innovative students and recent graduates of product and industrial design and engineering degree programs worldwide to submit pioneering projects.

Beatriz Oria Lombardía’s Master's thesis, »(non-)local lab«, received an award at this year’s German Design Graduates »Dare to Design« show at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar graduate won over the jury in the category of »Research and Transfer« with her interactive knowledge transfer based project dedicated to addressing the issue and potential of invasive plant species in Thuringia. The award comes with a 2,500 euro prize.
Am 20. September 2023 startet mit der »Bauhaus Digitalwerkstatt« ein Angebot für Schüler*innen, die ihr Interesse für Informatik, Mathematik und der Lösung komplexer Probleme vertiefen wollen. Climate-neutral and multifunctional: The 21st International Baustofftagung (ibausil), scheduled to take place from 13 to 15 September 2023 in the Congress Centrum Weimarhalle, will address the requirements that construction materials will have to meet. The conference, organised by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar F.A. Finger Institute for Building Material Engineering, will focus on current topics of building materials production and use. Thuringian Minister President Bodo Ramelow will be in attendance, as will University President Prof. Peter Benz.
