Dear students, dear colleagues,
We wish you a very happy and, most importantly, a healthy 2022!
This e-mail is to inform you on the remainder of the lecture period and some of the changes made regarding the 3G rule.
In-Person Teaching Still Permitted
In-person teaching will be possible again starting on Monday, 10 January 2022. Instructors are free to choose whether to hold their courses in-person again, or to continue the rest of the semester in digital or hybrid formats. The number of course participants and the course content are just as important for this decision as the safety of the instructors and students. We ask you to please be considerate of one another and to make decisions after carefully considering all arguments.
3G Rule and an Update on Self-Testing under Supervision
In accordance with the Thuringian Infektionsschutz-Maßnahmenverordnung (infection prevention ordinance), the implementation of the 3G rule at universities has changed. The 3G rule now applies generally to all Bauhaus-Universität Weimar buildings. Anyone entering university buildings must carry proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test result. This rule applies regardless of the activity being carried out and applies equally to courses, work in offices, workshops, labs and examinations. The 3G rule is also in effect at outdoor locations that have been and will be rented by the university. 3G rule compliance checks will continue to be carried out on a random basis and will be extended to all university premises (e.g. Workshops, labs, offices).
In addition, the Thuringian Infektionsschutz-Maßnahmenverordnung (infection prevention ordinance) stipulates that those who are neither fully-vaccinated nor recovered must, starting immediately, present proof of a negative rapid test result (vaild for 24 hours) or a PCR test (valid for 48 hours) from a test centre. The previously permitted self-testing under supervision is now only allowed in exceptional cases. This exception only applies to those who present a medical certificate stating that they cannot be vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 due to medical reasons and those for whom vaccination is not recommended according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Ständigen Impfkommission.
An overview of all rapid test centre locations in Weimar and their hours of operation can be found here: https://stadt.weimar.de/aktuell/coronavirus/coronavirustests/
The Thuringian Infektionsschutz-Maßnahmenverordnung (infection prevention ordinance) is initially in effect until 24 January 2022. Please note that these regulations may change at the university at short notice based on infection developments. A digital meeting with all Thuringian universities is scheduled to take place next week. We will inform you should any changes be decided upon in this meeting.
Preparations for the upcoming examination period are also underway and we are working hard to come up with the solutions that work best for everyone. We will inform you on the concrete plans in due course.
Once again, all the best for the new year 2022!
On behalf of the Board of Governance
sincerely,
Winfried Speitkamp
