The universities in Thuringia have collectively licensed the malware protection products by Sophos (license term: 1 Jan. 2016 – 31 Dec. 2016 and new 1 Jan. 2017 - 31. Dec 2020).
Only members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the College of Music FRANZ LISZT are entitled to use the provided software for the duration of the license term.
Students and employees of both institutions are allowed to install the desktop virus scanner on their personal computers free of charge as long as they are enrolled or employed by these institutions.
Sharing the software with external users is forbidden. Each user is personally liable for any infringement of the conditions of the license. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the SCC disclaim any liability for misconduct on the user’s part.
Sophos Endpoint Security and Control - – NOT FOR PRIVATE COMPUTERS
Before you can install the Sophos software, certain system requirements have to be modified (firewall access, checking and starting the necessary system services). Please follow the instalment instructions to ensure that all the features function correctly and that your computer is properly integrated into the central management of the university-wide system protection. You also require administrative permission to execute installation.
Your system MUST have an IP address from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, otherwise the programme will not install correctly!
- Only for Windows systems: First download the zip file which will automatically initialise the installation process (but does not install the virus scanner itself):
Unzip the files by clicking on the name.
If you wish, you may also initialise the settings manually:
Instructions for Windows
If you happen to be using a firewall other than the Windows firewall, you will have to initialise the necessary settings manually.
- Select the correct installation package by clicking on the appropriate link below (Download virus scanner): Your operating system + your area (e.g. Fak_BAUING = Faculty of Civil Engineering).
If your unit or area is not explicitly listed, please select the STANDARD package.
If your computer cannot be integrated into the central management because it is a stand-alone system without an Internet connection, please selected the UnManaged package.
If you have previously used McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, you do not have to uninstall it, but do have to deactivate the access protection. This has already been done for centrally administrated systems, but can also be manually changed via the VirusScan console. Users of Mac OS X must uninstall the McAfee virus scanner first (the uninstaller can be found in the McAfee directory). Virus scanners from other companies have to be uninstalled before the Sophos scanner can be installed.
