E-Mail from the Presidium: Basic Hygiene Plan Suspended | Information on summaery2022 and examination period

Dear students and staff of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar,

We are quickly approaching the highlight of the academic year: summaery2022. We are anticipating many visitors to our campus. This e-mail is intended to inform you on the important conditions that will apply at the university and on campus areas starting on Thursday, 14 July 2022.

Basic Hygiene Plan Suspended

The current Basic Hygiene Plan will be temporarily suspended after 13 July 2022. The university is acting in accordance with the State of Thuringia’s »Corona-Schutzverordnung«. In order to ensure that all university members and visitors feel safe, the University Directorate is continuing to recommend that the basic AHA+L (distancing, hygiene, mask + ventilation) rules are still adhered to. Masks are also recommended if the minimum distance between individuals cannot be maintained. As a refresher, here are the AHA+L (distancing, hygiene, mask + ventilation) rules:

A = Abstand (Distancing) – At least 1.5 metres should be kept between individuals in indoor areas.

H = Hygiene – Practice proper coughing and sneezing etiquette (cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow), practice proper hand hygiene (hand washing, disinfection) and stay home if you are experiencing typical coronavirus symptoms.

A = Arbeiten mit Maske (Wear a Mask) – Medical masks or FFP2 masks should be worn anywhere the minimum 1.5 metres distance cannot be maintained between individuals or in places where ventilation is poor. Be sure to wear your mask properly and that it fits your face snugly.

L = Lüften (Ventilation) – Indoor areas must be regularly ventilated. The most effective way to ventilate is shock ventilation with doors and windows wide open.

The Basic Hygiene Plan may be reinstated in the 2022/2023 winter semester based on the infection situation.

The transitional phase of pandemic-related optional home office will end on 15 July 2022 and mandatory attendance will again come into effect unless an agreement on alternating remote work and/or mobile work has been made, thus making the place of work more flexible. This agreement can be made at any time.

What are the rules during the examination period?

The examination period from 18 July to 12 August 2022 will take place primarily in person. As the Basic Hygiene Plan will be suspended during the time, you will not be required to wear a mask during examinations, even if the 1.5 metre distance cannot be maintained. In order to make sure that exams are carried out as safely as possible, efforts will be made to ensure that rooms are laid out with a 1.5 metre distance between students. The university recommends that all participants always wear a medical or FFP2 mask during examinations for the increased protection of themselves and others, even in cases where the 1.5 metre distance is maintained. Participants must bring their own masks to their examinations.

If you are unable to participate in an examination at short notice due to a positive (rapid/self) test, please report this to your instructor or examination office. You will not be penalised for this. The same applies if you do not participate in an in-person examination as a precaution after contact with an infected individual.

We recommend that you check the examination schedule on a daily basis, since exam dates may still be changed at short notice. Information on examinations that are set to take place on campus will be communicated to you as usual by the respective instructor, e.g. via Moodle or BISON. By acting considerately, you are helping to make the upcoming period as safe as possible for everyone, and we thank you for this.

The University Directorate hopes you have a successful and stimulating »summaery«. We wish you all the best for the upcoming examinations and a wonderful end of the semester!

On behalf of the Presidium,

Prof. Dr. Christian Koch, Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs
