Language centres play an important role in the course of the internationalisation process of universities and other institutions of higher education. Their role in imparting foreign language and intercultural competence and skills is an integral part of today’s landscape of higher education. This landscape, however, has undergone a fundamental change over the past 10 to 15 years, and this has also affected the demands that a modern language centre must meet. New target groups (i.e. administrative or academic staff) have been added to the ‘traditional’ student clientele, and the ‘traditional’ fields of activity have been complemented by new ones, such as supporting academic staff in teaching in English-speaking degree programmes or coaching PhD students. At the same time, digitalisation has led to a fundamental increase of new prospects and methods of foreign language learning and teaching. As a result, it has become necessary to develop new and future-oriented teaching formats and concepts and offer new services. The conference aims to address these and other issues with a number of topics that will be examined in detail in numerous workshops. Their goal is to provide participants with an overview of current developments, successful concepts, new methods and solutions, as well as up-to-date results of research being carried out in the fields of foreign language learning and teaching, and to encourage them to develop their own ideas and put them into practice. We would like to invite you to present samples of your work and research results in the form of lectures, work-in-progress presentations, workshops, or poster presentations. They should bear a clear reference to foreign language teaching and learning at institutions of higher education and also include practical examples for implementation or use.
