Project description

TWIST++, the joint research project, searches for rules and technology to transform the existing water supply and sanitation systems in a easily customisable way. Thus, developing a flexible response to changing circumstances, for example declining population numbers.

This student project deals directly with the water infrastructure systems of a Thuringian municipality and develops concepts for its future design. There is a pressure to act because the mainly used settling pits (mechanical waste-water treatment) no longer meet the prescribed standards and need to be replaced.

The aim of this project is to develop several alternative solutions that can be presented to the residents. First of all the various affected parties and their requirements for possible solutions are determined. The project participants access the condition of the existing water treatment plants through on-site identification methods and the collection of data, this creates a database. This database, along with the requirements of the affected parties survey is used to determine possible technological components. Drawing on the collected TWIST++ knowledge, different system variants are developed and the TWIST++ assessment criteria is used to filter out a preferable solution. Simultaneously, advantages and disadvantages of each solution variants are detected.
