Martin Fink’s experimental film shows a travelling shot of downtown Béal Feiste, whereby various shots were taken from the roof of the famous Europa Hotel. As the fear of terrorist attacks made obtaining film permits for most locations difficult, Fink began by taking photos or filming facades from the ground up. During the process of digital modelling, he decided to make the facades into a roof landscape by embedding animation sequences of stairways from a bird’s-eye perspective into the windows.
Using special effects, he makes raindrops dance across facades which were submersed under water. Two-dimensional video layers are spaced apart and superimposed onto a three-dimensional space and filmed with a programme-internal travelling shot. Through this combination, Fink discovered a method of spherical design, which gave the buildings weight and semblances of floating.
Using this work, Fink developed an animated video poster that can be projected against a wall as video wallpaper. The result is a rooftop view of a composite urban landscape which gradually changes over the course of twelve minutes.
