Project description
Carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and courgettes could be seen dangling at »Kiosk.6« on Sophienstiftsplatz for the summaery2013. Anyone can grow these vegetables – in the countryside as well as in the middle of an urban landscape.
The project »Gemüs‘ dich« (Veg Out) wanted to convince people of the idea of "Urban Gardening" – so that food production could become part of everyday city life again. The kiosk installation acted as a huge teaser for mobile summaery-gardens, where everything revolved around new forms of urban planting.
Katrin Steiger had the thought-provoking idea for the Media Art and Design project »We must cultivate our garden«. Students grappled with various gardening practices: In addition to urban gardening, concepts of guerrilla gardening, or the more familiar allotments were visited and discussed.
With lots of tender love and care, June Drevet and Diana Decker created their own cooking and guide book: »Gemüs‘ dich genüsslich« (Veg Out with relish). In addition to delicious recipes, such as tomato and fig salad and carrot brioche, they also gave useful advice on city gardens: How do you plant the perfect balcony garden? What can you do to combat snails without using chemicals? How to build guerrilla seed-bomb?
The book could be purchased at the summaery2013, together with a hand-stitched jute sack that could be replant again.
