Drawing on the well-known Bauhaus-Walk, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students take people interested in or already great fans of Henry van de Velde on a special tour on the trail of the exceptional architect. »From the part to the whole« is the motto of this tour, which reveals Van de Velde’s seemingly hidden and almost forgotten art school ensemble.
The guidebook was recently published in order to reflect the impressions and information provided by the tour and to allow the visitor to later experience the tour again. Stroll through hallways of the art school building, past Rodin’s »Eva«, up the rolling staircase to the light-filled atelier with its striking curved window panes. Then walk over to the building of the former Großherzoglich Sächsischen Kunstgewerbeschule, Van de Velde’s main workshop in Weimar. Feel the spirit of timelessly beautiful architecture and learn through anecdotal history about one of the most famous representatives of a language of form that, according to Van de Veld, maintained that »the age of ornaments made of tendrils, flowers and women is over«.
The guidebook is available in the Bauhaus.Atelier | Info Shop Café for Euro 12.90 in German.
