The Young Bauhaus Research Conference (YBRC) "Modern Heritage in the MENA region" invites academics, scholars, and young researchers from the fields of architecture, urbanism and civil engineering to engage in a multidisciplinary discussion and to explore new approaches and strategies regarding the different aspects of “Modern Heritage”. This conference will particularly focus on the 19th and 20th century legacy of architecture and urban planning in the Middle East and North Africa (the MENA region). It includes all aspects of built products such as houses, built infrastructure, industrial or commercial buildings, monuments, artifacts, historical sites etc. This conference brings to attention the susceptibility of heritage of modern movement in the MENA region which is caused by socio-economic and political conditions.
The YBRC is organized by a multidisciplinary group of young researchers from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, supervised by Prof. Dr. Hans-Rudolf Meier, Chair of Conversation and History of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It aims to highlight the challenges facing identifying, preserving and documenting modern heritage including the role of the new technologies in this process in three main fields of Architecture, Urbanism and Civil Engineering.
