Project description
Type is a central means of communication that has existed in fixed, static forms for centuries. However, with the development of digital type technologies, a paradigm shift has taken place: typefaces can dynamically adapt, transform and respond to different contexts. In an increasingly interconnected world where digital interaction is ever present, this project aims to explore how variable type as an interactive element can transform digital environments. It addresses the central question of how typographic design can be used as a flexible medium to enhance the user experience in digital and physical spaces.
The aim is to develop a variable typeface that is designed with the goal of reacting to people, things, movement, sounds and so on. Thereby we will consider human interaction as the basis for our form finding in type design. We will investigate which new solutions for variable interaction and variable axes we can develop on the basis of gestures, facial expressions, movement, sounds, etc.
