Project description

Is it possible to provide insights into the everyday life and work of imprisoned women beyond
excited outrage, sensationalism and voyeurism? What images are created when people from different walks of life work together? Photography students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and imprisoned women from Chemnitz Prison will explore these questions together. Using photography, the unknown inside, the everyday life in the prison, becomes visible to the outside world. The resulting photographs show moments, fragments and nuances of everyday prison life. The aim is to translate the ordinary into images and to thematize perspectives on the inner world of the prison. Large-format photographs on the outside of the prison wall and a simultaneous exhibition on the grounds are the visible result of the collaboration.

A part of the exhibition in Chemnitz, which can be viewed on the outside walls of the prison until September 30, will be on display in the window of the 11m3 exhibition space from June 11-24. The vernissage will take place on July 11 at 7pm.
