Project description
Erfurt's Anger plays an important role for many people in the city. As a central urban space, it reflects Erfurt’s identity and serves as a vibrant hub for both residents and visitors. However, in line with broader trends across Germany, the Anger is facing growing challenges. Online retail is increasingly threatening local retailers, and the traditional department store model is in crisis. Moreover, the city centre no longer seems to fully meet the needs of an increasingly diverse and socially polarized society. Many people are not only looking for places to shop but also for inclusive, welcoming spaces to spend time. People who lack adequate or permanent housing are particularly dependent on non-commercialized public spaces.
These developments raise pressing questions about the future of city centres: How can they remain vibrant, inclusive, and attractive to all citizens? This project explores these issues through a variety of perspectives. By developing different research designs and applying diverse methods the students investigate the complex challenges facing the Anger. The aim is to better understand the current dynamics and to help shape future visions for Erfurt’s city centre.
Before the Summaery the results will be presented and discussed publicly in Erfurt.
