Project description
In the 'To Beer or Not to Beer' project, students explored the polarising aspects of alcohol consumption as a social phenomenon, both conceptually and creatively. Alcohol has played a central role in many cultures around the world for thousands of years. In Western culture, hardly any celebration takes place without it.
We started by looking at the positive aspects of alcohol consumption. What culture and traditions are associated with it? In collaboration with Wiegand Manufactur Weimar, the students developed concepts and packaging designs for a new alcoholic beverage. The aim was to stand out from the wide range of existing products by creating an exciting concept in terms of both content and design.
In the second part of the semester, we examined the flip side of the coin: what does alcohol addiction mean? How can it be recognised, how can it be dealt with, and how can visual communication tools support those affected or helping institutions? Our direct cooperation partner here was the Addiction Help Centre of the Erfurter Stadtmission, who shared their expert knowledge with us.
For the final part of the project, the students worked independently on a question of their choice within the topic area, taking a creative approach.
