Project description

The Digital Transport Research Lab is a project module especially for students in the Master's program Digital Engineering with the profile line "Mobility and Transport". The project module will be offered during the summer semester. This year's overarching theme is "Dependencies Between Local Traffic Conditions and Regional Transportation".

This project investigates how interventions at key traffic junctions affect both local and regional transportation, using Weimar, Thuringia, as a case study. A simplified transport model will simulate traffic responses to junction closures, aiming to answer how critical are specific junctions, how many can be closed before the transportation system collapses, and how such changes impact regional routes. Using the software PTV Visum and Vissim, the students analyzes traffic data and closure scenarios to assess resulting traffic impacts on travel time, congestion, and transportation system stability. The result is a decision-support tool for urban and regional traffic planning.

The students summarize their results in a poster, that they present as part of a poster presentation. A discussion with questions and comments from the teaching staff follows. All will be held in English. The audience is invited to participate in the discussion and ask question.
