Project description
This seminar explores the cyanotype (also called blueprint) in practical application as well as from an art historical perspective.
Cyanotype is one of the first photographic techniques from the 19th century. After it lost its importance and almost fell into oblivion, since the 1960s more and more artists have been working with this diverse and inexpensive technique. This course gives a brief insight into the early history of photography and introduces different positions of contemporary artists who deal with this medium.
Parallel to the theory, the students acquire their own artistic-practical experience with the cyanotype. They carry out all the steps in the process, from preparing the solution and priming the paper to exposing and developing a photogram. As practice grows, the project becomes more large-scale, and digital elements can be added via laser printing. The student's own realization takes place in a poster for a 1920s motion picture. This is done in cooperation with the project "Gefesselte Blicke" by Dr. Simon Frisch.
For the summaery, the students will develop a small workshop for the visitors.
