Project description
During a drawing excursion lasting several days, the skills of spatial perception and representation can be deepened, expanded and consolidated. The exploration of historical and modern urban and architectural situations with sketchbook and pencil serves to enrich the individual visual memory through intensive observation and notation. The experience and analysis of drawing leads to an active engagement with the spatial environment and is an essential cultural technique of architecture.
The excursion took us to the city of Liberec in northern Bohemia on the Lusatian Neisse, located between the Ještěd and Jizera mountains. Due to the original city name Reichenberg, a German foundation is assumed. "Liberec has always been a city that strives for good architecture. Of particular importance for the cityscape was the enormous economic and industrial boom of the 19th century. Important architects from Bohemia, Germany and Austria designed numerous buildings in the city." (Architectural walk Liberec, Goethe Institute Czech Republic) The town's landmark is the unique hotel with a transmission tower on Ještěd, Liberec's local mountain.
