Project description

The aim of the installation is to inform and interest people in fungi, a life form that is an integral part of the ecology. Fungi have the capacity to sustainably replace materials as well as become artworks.

The Turkey tail mushroom forms a durable mycelial layer on top of a liquid culture. This translucent organic sheet can take on various shapes depending on its growing and drying conditions. The sculptural objects developed explore the individual properties of the grown membranes and the possibilities of working with them. Different growth strategies, the addition of supporting materials, varying drying methods and post-treatments reveal the unique features of the mycelium sheets. In the exhibition visitors get a visual and haptic impression of the process walking through the MUSH.ROOM.ROOM.
