Project description
Just a short moment on the road and it's clear: Where we study, it's not the big city, but Thuringia. Using the Thüringer Becken as an example, "Wer Land schaf[f]t" asks about the producers of the landscape. What role do individual and collective ideas of landscape play? How and to whom are they passed on? What role do actors play in shaping the landscape? Who is an actor at all?
The Thuringian Basin is not an idyllic landscape, it is intensively used by settlements, infrastructure, for industrial agriculture and energy production. Not least with the climate and ecological crisis, the perception of the landscape as "beautiful" or "ideal" is challenged. On the other hand, the question of "who creates land" also means: who manages to live in the countryside? The population decline in rural areas and the growing cities of Erfurt, Weimar and Jena form spatial contrasts that can also be the starting point for right-wing narratives.
With the necessary effort towards a climate-neutral Thuringia, answers must be found as to what a sustainable landscape should look like. In the seminar we will therefore deal with this question, supported by guest lectures and a day excursion. A free and deliberately interdisciplinary examination of the topic will be made possible and visualized in an exhibition for summaery 2023, so that we make an independent contribution to the idea of landscape and spatial production.
