Project description

The Undefined Maritime Object is a consequence of two ideas: what if we got to the fish and what if we did it on an oil rig?
In search of a suitable island, we came across the ruins of "Frigg Field" in the open sea. More precisely, it is located in the North Sea, 200km away from each Scotland and Norway.
The new structure of the "Concrete Drilling Platform 1" was supposed to do justice to both its grave and overwhelming character, which is inherent to offshore buildings, as well as its paradoxically delicate and playful floor plan.
From a monument preservation point of view, the aim of the design is rather a symbiosis instead of a formal demarcation from the existing building, as its structure speaks a language that is unusual today, which we can refine to differentiate ourselves from the aesthetics of modern progress.
In this way we can translate the utopian architecture of the past into contemporary spaces. Where better to place this landmark than on a tremendous offshore structure, where its ambivalent atmosphere frames a small closed cosmos of leisure and research?
As a sign of a rough time, offshore structures reveal something monstrous as well as something abandoned. The melancholy that they radiate may only show itself at second glance as something that is worth looking at and then learning from its beautiful heaviness for the future.
