Project description

Under the title "Shock of Freedom. Films of the Weimar Republic in the Weimar Cinemas of 1919" will be shown on ten evenings films which were shown in 1919 in the two Weimar cinemas Reform-Lichtspiele (Marienstr. 1) and Scherff's Lichtspielhaus (Marktstr. 20).

Together with Lichthaus GmbH and the Stadtarchiv Weimar, the Bauhaus University Weimar will realize a silent film series for the Kunstfest Weimar 2019 as part of the Weimar Art Festival: Silent film art combines with regional cinema history, historical reflection and musical performance. International musicians will accompany the films. The event offers an unusual perspective on the double anniversary year of the Weimar Republic and the Bauhaus.

At the Summaery an exhibition on the films shown in the silent film series of the Kunstfest can be seen in the Lichthaus Kino. There will be a champagne reception in the Lichthaus for the opening on Friday, 12.07., at 17 hrs. At the opening an act from one of the films will be shown with piano accompaniment.
