Project description
The Chair of Design and Urban Architecture at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is organizing the Johannes Göderitz Prize 2026 on behalf of and in cooperation with the Johannes Göderitz Foundation. TU Braunschweig, Leibniz University Hannover, and Munich University of Applied Sciences are also involved.
In 2026, the prize will focus on Neuperlach, a late-modernist district designed according to the planning ideals of Göderitz’s generation: a green, functionally separated city structured by urban highways and influenced by the Athens Charter and the study “The Articulated and Loosened-Up City.”
Today, more than 50 years later, Neuperlach faces changing demands in mobility and housing, aging buildings, and vacant office space. At the centre is the former Siemens site, where large parts of approximately 370,000 m² of office space remain unused and technically outdated.
At the same time, Munich urgently needs housing. The prize therefore asks how existing structures can be preserved, transformed, and combined with new urban qualities. In this way, the Siemens site becomes a case study for carefully developing Neuperlach further on the basis of its existing fabric and identity.
