Project description

OTOGRAPHIES is a glossary of the ear. Over the semester, students have written a set of short entries that move between physiology, perception, sound, listening and culture: the cochlea and the otoacoustic emission alongside the soundscape, the hearing threshold and the act of listening itself.

The glossary treats the ear not as a passive receiver but as an instrument in its own right, a site where the physical, the perceptual and the cultural meet. Each entry is written in a dry, precise register and paired with a plain schematic diagram, closer to a textbook figure than an illustration.

During summaery the glossary leaves the page. Its entries are distributed as text posters across the campus, turning the buildings into a walk-through reference work on hearing. Visitors assemble their own reading by moving between the posters rather than following a fixed order.
