Project description

Designing heat-resilient cities that make urban life bearable for people in the face of climate change is a complex challenge. Greening and land-use changes must be promoted, but these measures are costly and can disrupt people’s daily lives. Solutions therefore often navigate a tension between different interests, resources, and needs—and the associated trade-offs are not always distributed fairly.

In the »Immersive Decision Theater – Greening Jena« project, students are developing an interactive VR prototype that visualizes how heat »hotspots« in Jena could be cooled through greening and soil restoration, and what factors must be taken into account in the process. During Open Lab Night, visitors will have the opportunity to try out an initial VR prototype for themselves.
