Project description
»Type in Transition« is an type design course divided into two sequential phases: an intensive five-day workshop led by Marcel Saidov, followed by a series of sessions spread over five weeks and led by Samara Keller.
In the first part, we will examine historical typeface examples and selected typographic works. The aim is to identify and understand fundamental design elements, forms, and styles. Based on our analysis, we will break down, simplify, and reinterpret these components. This will form the basis for the initial drafts of a contemporary typeface.
In the second part, these drafts will be further developed and refined into a variable typeface. The goal is to develop a typeface with two stylistic starting points (masters) between which smooth transitions are possible. This creates a stylistic axis that reveals the typeface’s various characteristics, moods, and personalities.
