Project description
Urban spaces have a significant impact on the physical and mental well-being of their inhabitants. Urban quality is not determined solely by density, functions, or building typologies, but by the interaction of spatial structure, social exchange, open spaces, and atmosphere. We therefore understand therapy as an urban design principle: the deliberate creation of environments that encourage social interaction, movement, quality of stay, and sustainable neighborhoods.
The focus is the former hospital site on Bachstraße in Jena. This centrally located area offers considerable potential for transformation. After decades of monofunctional use, it presents the opportunity to convert an isolated site into an open, mixed-use urban quarter. Existing buildings, mature green structures, and its proximity to the city center provide valuable resources for redevelopment.
The goal is to create a vibrant district that combines living, working, and public uses, supports diverse lifestyles, and balances urban density with high-quality open spaces.
