Project description
You swat them away. You close the window. You move your drink inside. Insects have always been the uninvited guests of human space; tolerated at best, eliminated at worst. What most people don't realize is that flying insects have been disappearing at a drastic rate for decades.
Gone to Silence reflects on the quiet disappearance of flying insects. Drawing from research on the decline of insect biomass, the installation makes an invisible loss tangible. It asks what happens when the living sound of the air begins to fade, and what we only start to notice when it is almost too late.
