Project description
Every weekend, an attic in Saxony-Anhalt becomes, for a few hours, a stage, a digital studio and a place where Vietnam feels close.
Every Weekend, Our Attic Becomes Vietnam, a photographic bachelor’s exhibition by Mai Do, tells the story of her family and the digital life of the Vietnamese diaspora in Germany. During the pandemic, her father began turning the attic into a livestream studio. Since then, her mother has regularly sung Vietnamese songs there for a community that meets online, connected through music, memory and the need for closeness.
The project looks at what often remains in the background: cables, cameras, clothing, preparation, repetition and the care shared within a family. It shows how a private room can become a place of gathering through collective effort. The exhibition asks how belonging can be created across distance, and how a community builds its own spaces in order to be seen, heard and connected.
