Project description

The methodology of renovation is far more than a mere maintenance measure. It is a thoroughly creative process. »Designing« means »renovating.« It is not only buildings that are renovated, but above all, ideas. Designing means questioning one’s own ideas, »discarding« them. In the spirit of Hermann Cech: »A renovation is more interesting than a new construction—because, fundamentally, everything is a renovation.« In our seminar »How to draw!«, we look at buildings designed in this spirit. We explore works by Denis Scott Brown, Anna Viebrock, James Wines, and Gordon Matta Clark. Drawing becomes an act of understanding and thus the foundation of a mental renovation.
