Project description
The Bauhaus Design Lab (D–LAB) understands itself as a place for research-based design, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experimental knowledge production. It brings together perspectives from design, engineering, material research, digital technologies, and cultural studies, creating a framework in which theoretical-critical reflection, design-methodological questions, and practice-based research intersect.
The D–LAB Research Showcase 2026 offers insights into current doctoral and research projects that are developed at the D–LAB or are associated with its topics, methods, and infrastructures. It presents selected projects, prototypes, and processes that make different forms of research through design visible — ranging from material and technological experiments to digital and robotic procedures, as well as questions of mediation, participation, and societal transformation.
As a laboratory, workspace, and exhibition venue, the D–LAB also understands itself as a platform for exchange: between early-career researchers, students, faculty, and external partners. The showcase presents research not only as an outcome, but above all as an open, collaborative, and process-oriented space of inquiry.
The exhibition was curated and organized by student research assistant Josefine Dransfeld; the graphic design of the works was co-produced by Natascha Tümpel.
