Project description
Drawing on and critically developing the concept of »engaged art,« drawing can be understood as a practice that not only depicts spatial and social contexts, but actively questions them. Starting from close observation, we will sketch in the urban spaces and interiors of Weimar, thereby refining and transforming our personal perceptions by making potential conflicts visible and revealing existing power dynamics through our drawings. We observe everyday situations in which social spaces emerge between different groups of people. These may include communal activities such as care, nursing, value creation or protest. Much like a reportage, we visually narrate the interactions and behaviours of people in specific situations. The aim of the reportage is not merely creative – it is a form of drawn journalism that serves as a record of themes and motifs on site. The choice of suitable analogue media such as pencil, ink pen, marker, chalk, brush and sketchbook, or digital tools such as the tablet, is aimed at achieving a graphic and colourful expression that allows tension, contrast and emphasis to be introduced into the spontaneous drawing. We get to know Weimar from various perspectives, with numerous details and visual stories
