Project description
Algorithms are exerting increasing influence on the way we design. As designers, we think in systems, define rules, construct frameworks within which forms are meant to develop a life of their own. We create spaces, we create possibilities.
( ) is concerned with the shell: with underlying structures, grids, hollow bodies, blank pages. With the appendix, the colophon, the index, the register, the dimensions, the archive. With wireframes, backends, substructures, surfaces, contexts, relations, frames, conditions, parameters, forms without language. We have designed shells for grand narratives, for magnificent ideas, for manifestos and visions that interest no one, that no human being will ever contemplate, that never existed and never will.
What emerged were soundtracks in the form of modular vases, a blank map upon which we leave our traces, observations of shifting states of matter, collections of package inserts, props and the proposition that multiplicity is produced not through new material, but through altered conditions and processes.
