Glück – the German word for »happiness« – also appears in the name of Austrian architect Harry Glück, who designed Alterlaa, Vienna’s exemplary modernist housing complex. Today, his ideas of planned collective life are being revisited and reinterpreted from the bottom up by co-housing groups built around the idea of community. Rather than entrusting their happiness to experts, co-housing residents take responsibility for their own well-being.
Through ten glimpses into the life of the co-housing community WILLDAwohnen, the film After Glück explores everyday, unexpected moments of collective living in Vienna. In doing so, it understands the collective not only as a community of people, but also as an assemblage of human and non-human actors. These moments unfold in the presence of Glück – both spatially and metaphorically – yet they belong to what comes after.
