Project description
In the seminar, the students learnt about the eventful history of the northern Bohemian city of Ústí nad Labem through literature research and prepared for lectures and with drawing exercises on selected architectural objects. Ústí nad Labem is a grey and somewhat faceless industrial city in the Elbe Valley, a city with numerous scars, but at the same time a city of superlatives. Brussels style, German expressionism, Czech neo-renaissance, international brutalism - in terms of architectural diversity and individuality, the regional centre in northern Bohemia stands out. During the drawing excursion, we had a guided tour of the city with the monument conservator and art historian Arne Frank. Thanks to the mediation of Senator Martin Krsek, we were able to visit the interior of St Adalbert's Church. Historian Tomás Okurka took us to the excellently curated exhibition ‘Nase Nemci/ Our Germans’ in the City Museum.
The students drew a collective map of the city from imagination and memory, various views of selected architectural objects in the city, perspective drawings of interior and exterior spaces, views, floor plans, axonometric drawings and details, which are shown in the exhibition.
